Star Cruises obtains priority berthing rights

This will allow it to cross-market its offerings with RWS

By JAMIE LEE

STAR Cruises - held under Genting Hong Kong - has secured priority berthing rights with Singapore Cruise Centre's international passenger terminal at HarbourFront for 10 years.

Smooth sailing: Both the SuperStar Virgo (above) and the SuperStar Libra will have S'pore as its home port

The cruise operator said the agreement gave Star Cruises 'commercial and financial incentives' to expand its presence in Singapore, especially as its affiliated company, Resorts World Sentosa (RWS), has been pulling in more tourists. RWS - which is close to HarbourFront - is run by Genting Singapore.

'The proximity of RWS to the international passenger terminal and the berthing advantage provided will combine to give Genting Group greater flexibility to cross-market its offerings to cruise and integrated resort customers.'

Star Cruises, Singapore Cruise Centre's first cruise liner customer, has Singapore as its home port for the Asian flagship, SuperStar Virgo. Another cruise ship, the SuperStar Libra, will be home ported in Singapore for seasonal deployment from Nov 6.

Singapore Cruise Centre registered a record 900 ship calls and 1.14 million passenger throughput last year.

Tourism arrivals last month touched a record high for the month of September - translating to the 10th straight month-on- month record - thanks to the Singapore Grand Prix as well as the leisure and entertainment events during the season.

Visitor arrivals stood at 947,000, up 18.4 per cent year-on-year, latest data from the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) showed.

Indonesia, Malaysia, Australia, China, and India were the top five visitor- generating markets for the month, accounting for 58 per cent of total visitor arrivals, STB said.

SINGAPORE: Cruise operator, Star Cruises, and Singapore Cruise Centre (SCC) have entered into a strategic partnership that will make it more attractive for Star Cruises' fleet to use Singapore as a hub.

Under the 10-year agreement, Star Cruises will secure priority berthing rights at SCC's International Passenger Terminal at HarbourFront in Singapore.

Star Cruises is a unit of the Genting Group, which also owns Resorts World Sentosa.

Genting said the proximity of Resorts World and the Passenger Terminal at Harbourfront, combined with the berthing advantage provided under the agreement, will give the group greater flexibility to cross-market its offerings to cruise and integrated-resort customers.

Star Cruises, together with its jointly controlled entity, Norwegian Cruise Line, is the third-largest cruise operator in the world with a combined fleet of 18 ships sailing to over 200 destinations worldwide.

According to UK-based Ocean Shipping Consultants, the Asia-Pacific cruise industry is poised to grow to two million passengers by 2015, a three-fold increase since 2005.

Hey, full yr estimate result should be US$154.4 mil, as Star criuse profit of US$8.3 was left out in Q3.

So fair price should be US$0.522.

According to a UOBKH report dated on 15 Oct 2010, it gives Genting HK a fair price of US$0.39 based on a full year profit of US$115.3 million.

Base on US$146.1 is US$49.4 using above.

Star Cruises and Singapore Cruise Centre, the cruise terminal operator, have entered into a strategic partnership that will make it more attractive for Star Cruises’ fleet to use Singapore as a hub for its cruise business.

Under an agreement signed between Genting Hong Kong Chief Operating Officer (Cruise) William Ng and SCC President/CEO Cheong Teow Cheng, Star Cruises will secure priority berthing rights at SCC’s International Passenger Terminal at HarbourFront in Singapore. The deal runs for 10 years and gives Star Cruises the commercial and financial incentives to expand its presence in Singapore at a time when its affiliated company, Resorts World Sentosa (RWS), one of two integrated resorts in Singapore, is helping to attract tourists from the region to the Republic at record levels. This July, tourist arrivals to the island reached an all-time high of one million, according to Singapore government statistics.

SCC’s International Passenger Terminal (IPT) at HarbourFront is near RWS, Singapore’s first integrated resort wholly owned by Genting Singapore PLC. The proximity of RWS to the IPT and the berthing advantage provided under the Agreement will combine to give the Genting group greater flexibility to cross-market its offerings to cruise and integrated resort customers.

SCC saw a record 900 ship calls and 1.14 million passenger throughput in 2009.
