Even Warren Buffett is slamming himself recently over the investment screw-ups. Heck, if you know of anyone who's only lost 15% of his investment value, guess what? He's probably outperformed 80% of all long-side hedge funds!

I agree with SGgal that it's important to keep chins up despite the doom and gloom all around. The mkt is already on ICU, so no pt praying/fretting too much. If one still has a job, continue to work hard, keep your debts/liabilities down, spend where necessary etc, focus on family rather than red figures in the trading account etc. Look for positive opportunities.

It's also important to understand that there can be no dawn when there is no darkness. We are all in darkness now, but guess what, seriously, when you have like, half of all major economies dumping $$$ in the market, trying to make credit cheap, things will eventually turn around. Slowly maybe, but surely. Heck, for all the stupid things the human race has done in the past, we've survived collectively for more than 5000 yrs! 2-5 yrs of bear mkt is, frankly, a bleep.

When I first saw the title of this thread, my eyes popped out. Haha.. but turns out to be a serious discussion.

99% of people suffered losses. So let's not be too hard on oneself. However, it is important not to allow these losses to grow but refusing to cut loss.

knightbridge - yup... fear is abound everywhere. This fear arises from uncertainity. The problem is it seems that no one knows how long this will last or how to fix this.

I dun think fund manager is FEAR type. Afterall, they play with other people maney and their fund charge are still a percentage irregardless of the market up or down. Like taking commision.

I smell fear in investors and fund manager with the over whelming of bad news from newspapers and media..

It is only when future look bleak one can then pick up distress assets at rock bottom.. Only the brave who is smart will end up as winner..

There is a chinese saying chaotic times create hero....

Lazyhorse:  I consider you my senior; should be asking you for stock picks.  May we all sell high and buy low ALL THE TIME! Smiley

In this unprecedented market climate, it is wise to have a short term view on stock investment. The risk is just too great to hold on to stocks for too long.

However, in practice, it is kind of difficult to execute a hit-and-run strategy. If one hits the right counter in the right direction, bingo. If one hits the wrong counter, can one cut loss at the pre-set level? It is easy said than done. But what needs to be done needs to be done.

One good famous advice is to preserve one's capital.
