How would our superheroes fix our super-problems?
HERO: AQUAMAN
Problem: World Hunger
Powers: Undersea adaptation, telepathy, super strength, enhanced speed, healing factors, senses and durability, extra resistance to heat and energ y based attacks and a mystically enchanted left hand.
According to the World Health Organisation, approximately one-third of the world is well-fed, one-third is underfed and one third is starving. Yet it certainly isn’t for a lack of food. Experts say the world’s current food production could feed seven billion people, approximately one billion more than the population. Grave hunger persists in part because of distribution as the majority of the food is produced in richer, more developed countries and poorer countries can’t afford the prices. These same poor countries are also unable to produce food from their own land.
What could Aquaman do?
For a start, he could convince First World governments to subsidise the price of grain for impoverished countries, and assume the cost of transporting it between and among countries. To this end, he would marshal whales and dolphins to assist in the endeavour.
Since the malnourished suffer lower immunities and often succumb to common diseases, Aquaman’s special healing powers would be most welcome helping save lives. However, his most important contribution to this crisis would be his extraordinary abilities and powers of the ocean.
The ocean’s depths have yet to be fully explored by man, in particular, its potential as an even larger food source for the world.
Who knows what species have yet to be discovered, some yet unknown deep sea fish or shellfish with high sustaining protein? He could also begin undersea farming to yield both fish and vegetation. Only Aquaman could address these possibilities while managing distribution at very little cost. For all we know, he could do more; not much is known about the powers of his mystically enchanted left hand.
Read what else Superman , Wonder Woman , Batman would do ..... hahaha !
I'm now reconsidering trading in my 1.6 litre car and getting a 2.0 litre one.
How's the car market recently? I just dropped by Kah Motor and saw that the crowd is still there. Singaporeans still car crazy even though the oil price and inflation is so high.
What I've Learned : Gerald Ford , Former US President
I have a lot of respect for people who work behind the scenes. They're different.
I swim twice a day, four laps in the morning before breakfast and four laps before dinner. It's good exercise, and it's a way to keep my weight down and my muscles toned good.
For supreme happiness, a man has to reach one of his grand goals.
You should always count on telling the truth. Even white lies are unhealthy.
To lose with grace is a great asset to one's personality.
I certainly believe in heaven. I don't have much dealings with hell. I'm an affirmative guy.
I didn't organize my life or plan it. It unfolded.

Sky cleared, Junta now allowes all helps from all corners to Myanmar. But a bit late as many victims died owing to lack of medical assistance and foods. Epidamic could be the consequences, it will post threat to those now going in the dissaster areas rendering assistance. What a pitty to those Myanmarians suffering at he dissasters' areas. May God bless them.
ALL CHARGED UP
Another step has been taken towards thecommercial launch of fully-electric vehicles.
AutomotiveEnergy Supply Corporation, Nissan’s joint-venture company with electronics giant NEC, announced earlier this week that it has gone full swing into the development and production of lithium-ion batteries for vehicles.
These laminated batteries are extremely compact, making them easier to package in small cars. They are also twice as powerful as current nickel-metal hydride batteries.
Nissan says ongoing tests have proven them to be reliable and safe even after 100,000km of driving.
Nissan’s first electric car will be introduced in Japan and the USA in 2010, with global sales scheduled to begin in 2012.

I have some Myanmese friends in Singapore who tell me that the situation there is much worse than is actually revealed to the international community. They are all worried for their family and friends.

China now is focusing on rescuing survivors and providing temp shelters to the affected victims. Centre gov stated they will provide very transparent spreedsheet on money donated by foreign and local later.
less reported because the junta govt doesn't want foreigners (reporters and aid workers alike) in. I read an account of an undercover BBC reporter's story in Myanmar over the weekend (on Straits Times). The govt there really sucks... One thing though that people have to be aware is that they might over exaggerate the no. of dealth tolls and injury because they want more and more aid in the form of cash. No one can say if they are pocketing it or not.
The other tragedy that is somewhat less reported in the media is the one in Myanmar.
The death toll there is maybe 5 to 10 times higher than in China.
China had closed up many coal mines in the rural areas owing ot poor safty and fatal accidences. With the current quake forbial, really, its a very difficult mission to revive the coal mine centred activities again. What a pitty to the people there.
Oil from Coal :
wonder how many got this interesting call today : china is going on a big way to coal-to-oil in the next 5 years ...their pitch : "care to invest before it takes off ..? "
in ... National Geographic
OK, someone asking how to find out current state of family members in quake's areas. Now, Starhub cable TV Ch 50(Phoenix) 24 hrs non stop reporting the disaster areas and broadcasting of search msg cum email contact. Hope can help.
Brethren, when I speak to you, don't accept it blindly because you love and respect me. But examine it and put it to the test, as a goldsmith examines gold by cutting, heating and hammering it to know whether it is genuine gold or counterfeit. If you see it is reasonable, only then accept it and follow it.

What I've Learned : Jimmy Carter , Peacemaker
Winning the Nobel Peace Prize was a great honor. I was the same person the day after I won it as I was the day before.
I was in the Navy for eleven years. Except for Dwight Eisenhower, I had more service in the military than any president since Ulysses Grant.
When I became president, the average vehicle got only 12 miles per gallon. We mandated 28.5 miles per gallon. But as soon as I left office, President Reagan undid all that, to the extent that he could. When I see a Hummer, I see a gross waste of one of the world's precious resources and the increasing vulnerability of our country to foreign and uncertain sources of energy.
The hostage crisis lasted almost a year. Most of my political advisers were urging me to launch an attack against Iran. I could have, in effect, destroyed Iran with one strike. And it would have been politically popular to do so. But in the process, I would have also killed thousands of innocent Iranians. And it would have undoubtedly resulted in the execution of our hostages. But the pressure on me from the news media and from other sources was "You've got to lash out at these criminals." During that time, I would sit with my family at the dinner table at the White House, and they would ask, "Daddy, why don't you launch an attack? Why don't you destroy them?" I would explain to them more directly and personally and maybe more sincerely what all the considerations were in my mind. And they gave me support and strength. My family tied me back to the human element in the most important international, diplomatic, and military decisions I had to make. And in the end, I was thankful that although my profession was that of a military man -- commander in chief of the armed forces, prepared to defend my nation with maximum force if I had to -- I was able to go through my entire term in office without firing a bullet, dropping a bomb, or launching a missile.

Singaporegal... :)
Any idea if you'd be going into currency trading in the near future?
Perhaps your expertise can be applied to this arena too? Furthermore, the trading
hours are less restrictive than in stocks...

Seems like next week is a good week. Your choice loh. Cheers.
