Huatah, if I am you, I would not take profit yet. Your entry was 16.44, which you still have buffer of almost 40¢ with wait for the result. If the result is favourable to you, you may reap of another 60¢. However if it's the other way round, your buffer of 40¢ will kick in to offset the drop, which I do not see too much of a drop since yesterday's drop had factored in the negativity of the news. Anyway, you had taken profit liao.....$$ in pocket is always sweet lah! Cheers.

I think the deal will go through. First there are more benefits and synergy in the long term wth SIA than with countries own airline. This way, it will spread its wings wider and worldwide. Second, it's about "guansi" (good relationship) with Singapore Government. Remember Temtem bail China Aviation Oil out in the last debacle, I guess all forgotten about that. It was Temtemp who came in as white knight to rescue the company at the brim of collasp. Hence, I think the deal will go through, which is shown in today's shareprice going upward and not looking back. I regret not getting in yesterday. If the deal is concrete by this afternoon, SIA should trade above $17.30 at least...it's just my view.

Pension,

I don't know how much A380 makes for SIA. But lets estimate from data available.

A380 has 471 seats - 1st class - 12; Business class - 60; Econ - 399. It makes one round trip to Syd per day

Assume average seat price (across all classes) is $1,500. From latest operating result, load factor is 84%.

Revenue per day is 1,500 x 471 x 0.84 = $593,460

From the latest financial report, (2Q08), Operating profit is about 13% of revenue....so operating profit of A380 could possibility be about 77k per day......????

China Eastern says HK, Shanghai share trade to be suspended
HONG KONG - CHINA Eastern Airlines Corp, the mainland's No 3 airline, said trading in the company's shares in Hong Kong and Shanghai will be suspended on Tuesday, pending a statement on the results of a shareholders' meeting.

China Eastern said in a statement late on Monday that trading in the company's shares was expected to resume on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, shareholders in China Eastern Airlines will vote on Singapore Airlines' plan to buy 24 per cent of the carrier.

The vote, to be held in Shanghai, comes two days after Air China's parent announced an 11th-hour plan to derail Singapore Airlines and Temasek Holdings' bid for a slice of China Eastern, pledging to pay at least HK$5.00 (S$0.93) a share versus Singapore's HK$3.80 offer. -- REUTERS

Pension,

My outlook for shares that I take positions is usually long term.

I view such sell down as opportunities to pick up fundamentally sound shares. The posts I made in this thread is not meant to induce anyone to buy or sell. It is to present my views on the situation.

E.g.......I thought your post on the 'long term' breakeven of the A380, I thought you were not presenting to readers the true picture......that prompted me to make a post to counter what you said.......a my mei mei elfie will say.....'keke'.
