Yes, I thot elf should like NZ... afterall it is the location of Middle Earth, Rivendell.

"Yes, it is Elves,? said Frodo. ??They don?t live in the Shire, but they wander into it in Spring and Autumn, out of their own lands away beyond the Tower Hills.?
- Frodo Baggins, The Lord of the Rings?

Elves of the High Kindred have not all forsaken Middle-earth. Beyond the western marches of the Shire, three great Elf-towers of immemorial age rise from the hills to look out over the Sundering Seas. From these White Towers the High Elves keep watch on their kindred travelling from eastern lands to the Grey Havens, west of the Tower Hills.....Elves of many kindreds tarry in the green valleys, ancient woodlands, and rolling fields of the Tower Hills, until at last they grow weary of the mortal lands and seek the Grey Havens. They sail down the River Lhûn to the High Sea, and into the Uttermost West, never to return.

geojam... i'll help u check with my frens in the tax industry on Monday

elf... no offence taken. esp since i can sense your warmth and sincere concern. thanks elf.  in fact, i agree with u, but it is easier said than done. i have previously cut 1K to 2K losses. but now is 20K plus leh. can't think rationally about SPC, therefore i am not going to post in the SPC until i recover my rationality

basically, for SMB, yup, i know it is a gamble. i would be able to support contra diff. my pay coming in, is an extra safeguard. i am still positive on celestial, but maybe not contra bah. will take a look at jiutian. thanks for your advice.

thanks chinkiasu. :)

ehhh...godpa, your heart's too easily moved man. :P btw, i don't email very often so pardon me if i disappear for days at a time yea.

sigh...singaporegal, after all the noise of singapore, i think i'd like NZ a lot. not sure if i can take winter tho....

giantlow, just a thought, hope you won't get offended: it appears to me that you're rather emotionally vested in your shares. Might like to detach yourself and see the reality instead. Hope does nothing to increase share prices; it only increases expectations, which more often than not lead to frustration. contra-ing SMB is perhaps a little unwise, esp if you need to depend on salary coming in to support it!

celestial's not worth a contra (to me, that is). might consider jiutian tho. FYE on 14th, consistent strong uptrend. enter 12th, run on 14th or when signs say run.

just my opinion yea. pls don't take it wrongly. thanks.

hi Geojam,

thanks for pointing out the difference, being chinkiasu, i went to do some web surfing to find out what others thot is the difference between walking and trekking..

Here is an abstract from Kathi MacNaughton of Europe Walking Tours.com

"Have you ever been curious about the difference between the terms "Hiking," "?Trekking," and "Walking"?

Basically, most people I meet are pretty much talking about the same thing when using these terms (Hiking, Trekking, Walking, ..) - and I will do the same when using them throughout this site...

... BUT...

... if you wanted to distinguish between them, here's how some experts define the different terms:

Hiking
Takes a day and usually brings you back to your base or starting point. It is often used in the meaning of "hiking up a hill/mountain." Normally it indicates you are carrying your own things in a backpack on these trips over rugged terrain. So "Hiking" is definitely on of these terms that has to be in my "
Europe Walking Tours" site.

Trekking
Takes multiple days of hiking or sometimes other conveyances like:

  • Canoeing, rafting

  • Snowshoeing, skiing tour, ski touring

  • Rock climbing

  • Ride by car/horse/mule

Each day of this trekking tour you would "walk," "backpack" or "hike." ("Tough hike today, huh?") but not necessarily through the wilderness, e.g., trekking in Nepal is often from village to village. You sleep in a different bivouac each night with mostly primitive accommodations. It is also often used in the sense of an organized group with hired "carriers," such as a trek up Mt. Everest with Sherpas. Again, "Trekking" is another great term when referring to any kind of "Europe Walking Tours."

Walking
When you are walking for several days, the problem of carrying both luggage and food and often water as well comes up, hence you need some back-up (usually a jeep).

Sometimes a "walking tour" means simply walking on a given route through a city (or a interesting rural area) for sightseeing purposes for several hours - so it's quite clear that this type of tour isn't meant when speaking of a Europe Walking Tour. ;)

Backpacking
Some people refer to backpacking as budget travelling, obviously with a backpack ;) For others it means walking distances with a backpack, carrying everything you need on your back for a multi-day trip through the wilderness.

Tramping
If you were in
New Zealand however, you would apparently go "tramping" instead of hiking or trekking...

Scrambling
Involves climbing over rocks but it's not as difficult as mountain climbing. You wouldn't need equipment for scrambling.

Bushwalking
Is a more sedate form of hiking, usually on tracks.

Rambling
Is hiking in
Great Britain :)

... "But who cares anyway, just pack your bags and walk..."

Happy hiking through Europe,"

oops you are right, it should be walking then except I do it at a brisk pace .. I think it more practical, you get your exercise and also enjoy the sceneries..

oh yes I forgot, i also did some walks in Huangshan.. lots of steps to climb though, and really gorgeous scenery.. perhaps you should try.. and if you really cannot make it there is always the sedan chair for 100 yuan.

Wow chinkiasu, very romantic.Ur wife must have received alot of flowers from u?If i am a girl ,my heart will move man.

Giantlow, with ur size, treking tracks in spore will become road, with ur constant pounding.Just joking.

Chinkiasu, please forgive me,more like walking then treking around macritchie res.To me treking must kind of challenge or rugged terrain type.Like what elf said in north thai mountain.

My daily evening walk for 1 hour, like that, also can be trekking lah.

ok,livermore,is interest expense on margin loan tax deductable in spore taxation?

hi Giantlow, Geojam, Elf, bunnie - actually treking in Singapore not so bad if you do it early.. I do that at about 0630hrs and finish around 0830.. it is really refreshing..

besides MacRitchie Resevoir circuit (ie. you literary walk around the reservoir  on boardwalk hugging the reservoir edge) there is also upper & lower Peirce walks thru the Nature reserve.. also the east cost is really nice with the cool breeze from the sea - and you get to see folks doing sword dance, fan dance etc. and of course the botanic gardens.. and soon there will be more addtions...

godpa, yah. in your case, put into drawer, don't look at it. hehe. don't get distracted by day to day movement pls, you're holding SPC as an FA investor, hope us shorttimers not distracting you too much. keke.

fwah. trek 20km....i trekked once in the north thailand mountains for one whole day...had to follow rabbit trails through thick undergrowth and bamboo forests...had to buang my shoes after that man....cannot make it....lovely waterfalls and bamboo tho. Dunno how our guide could find the path man. he was from one of the tribes...Lisu, Karen, or Hmong...can't rem...he had a damn cute dog tho! wanted to bring it home....weh...

aiyah...pls...lets not talk about work anymore. for one thing it's the weekend, for another, the less i say, the safer i am. hehe.

geojam... not many places to trek in Singapore. climate hot and sticky too. but one of my favourite route would be to trek from MacRitchie Resevoir to Bukit Timah Nature Reserve. about 20km plus bah.

elf... SMB results coming out soon. hoping for a pre-results rally. my job also deals with highly confidential info too, but i'm sure u are in a much higher position than i am cos my org still pays me CPF and i can leave the country freely.

hullo godpa. st engg uptrend likely to continue; mon should see price increase. accumulation appears strong; some cents down today prob 'cos profit taking.

SPC's trends are mixed. lead indicators read up but lag reading down. in any case, you're holding onto the motherstock so that's fine. likely to wait til before divvy before you see a spike. barring any major world event, my call would be to sell before dividend or straight after. it's being held up solely by divvy for now (ie, for FA short term abt 4-6 mth).

pet, mind mailing geojam so he can forward me your email? then we can sanba or something together. heehee. :P shopping! wanna go?? :)

fairygal, james bond is only in the movies...the reality's a lot less cooler. but yea, it is very interesting work, altho very tiring too. living in hallways of smoke and mirrors doesn't do much to make you trust people.

but oh, i think i may have forgotten to give you a leaf badge? you must forgive me, i'm so tired on weekdays! here,

*leaf badge!*

:))))

and erm, budget day's likely to be mixed news...

general qn: is all contra period T+3? i get T+5 leh. *blur* in any case i don't exactly use it...contra to me just means i have cash equivalent in the bank ready to back it up in case don't sell out by then.

and giantlow, why did you contra SMB, of all stocks? it's an FA counter leh, not TA....ie, hold longer time...

hey hey geojam,

wat gave u the impression that i was fit in the first place? hahahah. i'm more like the marshmellow man in ghostbusters. tall, big and a bit round. the only exercise that i like doing is trekking.

i went to tasmania last year. the air is fresh and the feeling is wonderful. too bad, i only had 1 week leave to spare. maybe, we can organise a trip to visit u eh. then, we go trekking together??

the only destructive activity i do, is pressing the snooze button on my alarm clock every morning
