geojam,
hey, don't flatter me leh. I'm just writing out my own experience and of course, I don't want others to make the same stupid mistakes as what I had done in the past. All our monies are hard-earned, right?
iPunter,
We are all still learning and trying to help each other out where possible. Glad you didn't get offended :)
i-tan888
I have the same experience as u.
In shares there is no guarantee.I only make the offer to my goddaughter as an incentive for her not to play too much contra stuff.
glad we have the wave length.
Cheers and nice knowing clever ppl like u.
Dear l_tan888...
You have made a good point there...
Anyway respects to you for being experienced and not taking others' comments at face value... Sorry about the sweeping comment about "any stock"... :)

Hi everyone!
Missed those interesting "talks", but enjoyed every moment reading them.
Elf has got personality. I think she is a very fun person to talk to, never run out of topics, intelligent talk I am referring to. She must be the sunshine mascot with the people around her. Not mentioning the mystery around her job, Would love to meet her in person.
I think most of you can write so well, it's like you people aced literature at all levels. Hey, and not mentioning couples of linguists here......!
Btw, just checking with you people if you happen to pass by Centrepoint, is the elderly woman in wheelchair still outside Robinson's selling tissue papers? Any idea how long she has been there? She is about at least 85 years old. Past by and saw her last Friday. Couldn't help thinking about her. Got some bak gua from nearby Bee Chun Heng for her. She ate them almost immediately. Globalisation?

Sorry, typing error, I mean the STI to hit 3,300 instead of 33,000.
Hi Ipunter,
Sorry, but no offence. Here's a living example. I'd bought some stupid stocks as far back as 8 to 9 years ago. Today, these are still under-water. For example: I-One.com (now renamed Xpress, which I just sold out recently at a big loss), Serial System, and even Mediaring (which I bought long ago at about $1.70 - at that time, everybody said since Sim Wong Hoo is buying, so this company will be prosperous), to name but just a few. Of course, the other of my stocks do make good monies and I can just breakeven now. But imagine, several wrong moves in the past and I need to take about 10 years to breakeven. However, I must admit that all these while, I don't play contra. Otherwise, I don't really know if I'll make or break.
I think the market today is frothy and volatile. Analysts were predicting the STI to hit 33,000 at end 2007, but it's already there now. So, going forward, I expect some serious consolidation, probably not this month, but after April 2007, when most companies will start their financial year.
Anyway, when was an offer ever made? Comments are not offers nor challenges..
i-tan888
U are real smart.I was waiting for him to make the mistake.
Some F### coward ,start to withdraw his offer.
Hope he will think b4 talking next time.
Okay... maybe that's too sweeping ... it's just a personal view..
Please do not, repeat, do not simply buy any stock!.

Hi eastonbay, let me guess OceanCity, MD or is it Delaware coast Rehoboth beach... or Virginia Beach VA or Kitty Hawk NC? perhaps Atlantic City, Cape May NJ.. I give up...
Hi Ipunter,
I think your implication of "any stock now" is not only incorrect, but also dangerous. Please do re-consider again.
I am one who is least 'daring' when it comes to the stock market.
I only do occasional small punts here and there, and is not inclined to make bets that can lead to big losses.
Anyway, we are talking about probabilities and the nature of stocks is such that in the long run, say 1 year, 2 years, etc. they can only rise in price and once again make 52-week highs again, for example.

I dare u to make the same offer to me as i made to bunbun.
Empty talk gets u no where.
I am sure when u have to pay up the capital loss,i will bankrupt u.
Here's another addict, partly becos of this tread which aptly titled "Fellowship of the shares". (shares as in stocks and 'share' as we share our emotion, trades etc etc) Previously I invest 'alone' but now I feel a fellowship.
Elf: sorry that I missed the East on the Bay question. You were right about it, but not in Singapore. It was a place where I lived for 1 year in USA. On the East coast of USA and literally by Atlantic Ocean. How I missed waking up to the soothing sound of waves and taking beach walk almost every evening (weather permitting).
godpa/elf, thanks for looking out for moi *big grin* not contra-ing today. look see market settle down 1st. overall, still gain but small cos of the recent contra losses. especially damn indofood. @!*&#*^^!
godpa, thanks for the STE tip. no need your reimbursement though. ur looking-out for moi more than enough to compensate any capital loss.. i will take a look at it.
giant, already sold celestial off last week when it hit 1.70 (thank god!) for kopi $. don't plan to go in again yet, wait for dust to settle first. last i checked, it was 1.59/1.60. indofood, bought past 1.60 and today supposedly last day for contra. lucky sold last week when it went up, so cut down losses. yup, it went up quite a bit that's why my losses bearable. if wait today then sell, backside sure tear.
oh, btw, happy that your SPC finally see light at end of tunnel :) goes to prove that if can wait for clouds to pass, sure see moon! kekeke.
In my view, if you just buy any stock now, not just ST Eng, and keep for at least one year, the chances of making money is almost certain... :)
Dear goddaughter bunie
I do not have any counter for u to contra.
But i can offer u this.
If u can get, finger cross,ST Engg at S$3.3 or less, buy as many lots as u can.U keep all the divvy,U keep all the capital gains but should u have capital loss,I will reimburse u the loss.
One condition tho.,U have to keep it for a minimum of 1 year.
Cheers

Fengshui tips for the Year of the Pig
HK geomancer predicts disaster in the US between June and July
By SIOW LI SEN
AS the Year of the Dog has given way to the Year of the Pig, Hong Kong fengshui master Alion Yeo has a few tips for 2007 which he shared at an ABN Amro Private Banking Hong Kong seminar earlier this month. In case you have not heard of him, Mr Yeo claims to have predicted the stock market dive in May 2005, North Korea's nuclear testing and to have advised that November was a good time to get back into the market. In 2007, he expects a major earthquake in Japan between April and May. He also sees market volatility in Hong Kong from April to May and again in October to November. There could also be a major US event, a natural or man-made disaster, in June to July so be prepared for ripples to the rest of the world, he said. It seems that in every lunar year, there are a couple of 'contradicting residence' stars that can be negative or positive depending on a person's birth date. In particular, those born in the Year of the Pig and Year of the Snake could experience major changes. Snake people are born in 1941, 1953, 1965, 1977, 1989 and 2001, while Pig people are born in 1935, 1947, 1959, 1971, 1983 and 1995. Those who are negatively affected should avoid 'ground-breaking activities' - which means no banging nails in walls, no construction and no decorating the house, in particular in a north-western direction, according to Mr Yeo. Surely not a good sign for those caught up in property speculation? But the fengshui master offers some remedies. To boost your luck, put a water pillar or water plant on the entrance facing south-west. You can also wear a jade rabbit charm to avoid bad luck. Everyone born from February to August will enjoy very good luck this year. But the rest need to be careful, Mr Yeo said. Though those born in spring - that is, February to May - should avoid the wood-related business. Those born in winter - from October to February - need more fire, and can improve their luck by having red, pink and purple colours. |
