hm, yes asterisk, you sound like you're quite young and in your first job. pls don't just jump into the market...

and lemme just clarify here that i don't do contra either: i always make sure i have full cash to back up any purchase i buy, and if i contra, it's only because the share price went up by that much within the time. More often than not i don't contra tho; it's only because these few mths have been a bull run.

elfinchilde: 'cos that's what my friends call me in real life. Since reality doesn't have a very good grasp on me. Plus, I'm small and cute. bwah hahaa. 'childe' comes from old english for 'child'.

ok gonna go out, it's play time! see ya! :)

Yes, if you wish to contra set up a margin account. You don't need to worry about time......

Celestial used to be a Chinese New Year stock. It'll usually shoot up during this period when it announces it's profit but that's no longer the scenario. From the look of it, it's trading buy and sell at most. I think chances of it trending down greatly outweigh it trending up. Be careful..tomm signals the end of CNY, expect more volatility in the stock market for the next 2 weeks.

If a stock has risen from 60 cents last June to $$2.30 now and drop to $2 during the correction. Is it considered a bargain??? I think not cause there's still chance for it to drop to $1 which is still higher than the 60 cents level.

Remember Malaysian clob shares---- it was pushed high up and crashed subsequently.

Remember Indonesian counters---- it was pushed high up and crashed subsequently.

Remember Tech counters---- it was pushed high up and crashed subsequently.

I've lost $$ before from all these but have slowly crawled back my losses. I am into my 10th year of trading...and i am still learning...

It takes 2 months for your gain to reach 20% but 2 days for it to be wipe out.

I still advocate caution. Don't dabble too much into China stocks at these level. Don't borrow $$$ to play the stock market. Don't contra. Use only your spare cash to invest.

Asterisk

Just my opinion.

If  u contra, then have a margin lending account set up.So if ur contra does not eventuate then ur margin lending can pick it up.

Provided there is a sharp spike in price and large lots are bought, there is usually not much contra gain given the short T+3 restriction.

I agree with iPunter... contra play is highly dangerous and unless you are very very sure of the outcome, its just pure gambling.

Contra should never be played unless it is CFD (30 days contra).

However if a stock you've entered goes up a lot (ie. surge) within  the 3 days period, then by all means contra it off.

Otherwise one should plan to pay for all purchases.

The point is how good are you at prediction to play the 3-day contra? In all probability the stock you bought will go up after the 3 days period, not before or within it. This is my view on the question of contra.

hALlos everyone

Just attended my first novice trading session. Interesting and enlightening. More clarity in my brain and less luan in my heart after session 1. I know my predicament came from ignorance and will be better equipped for my future trades. Will do more paper trading instead. At least what's left of my savings will be safer in the bank.

ipunter, my book is titled Long Term Secrets to Short Term Trading-Larry Williams. Also another one called Technical Analysis Explained-Martin Pring. Still reading, chapter1  cos my kid takes up lots of my time and energy.

Anyone finished reading this yet? Agree with singaporegal, gonna lay off trading till I've better confidence in the market and my trading skills. Ha... At least I won't get dry eyes from staring at the computer screen for long hours.

what gathering, when? how come never ask meee along? bwah hahaaa....eh, chinkiasu and yongjiu, don't worry, will always have space for you two. keke.

fairygal, gah! no, red and white nothing to do with singapore. It's just my ideal of things lah. I don't like in-betweens. and to me, flowers should be either red or white, either passion or purity, you see. The only flowers allowed to be other colours in elfin-land are sunflowers, orchids and violets! because these have their reason for being themselves. keke.

like the white iris best tho, of all of them. Which do you like? and hows about bunnie and singaporegal? :)

ok, time to go boozing, byebye people!

chinkiasu, you seem to fly around a lot, and kinda no fixed pattern of country. are you a pilot or air steward or what? cherry blossoms. hmph. how come i can't go for hols too. meh.

why's ahbear called ahbear, and yongjiu called yongjiu? same question to asterisk too! :)

ahhhh! the puppy eyed emotion is back!!! ahhhh! keke.

shplayer, da gege, no prob lah. We're all rational investors, so we all know that we're responsible for our own decisions and no one else. Was in a bad mood 'cos of other stuff lah. (try being on call 24/7 for work all the time >~<).

Quite frankly the stock market is the least of my worries... 'cos only FA counters i'm holding now, so backed by solid divvy, i'm still net positive, even excluding locked in profits.... To hold onto good FA counters in a correction is a wise idea, really. The only thing is, you must be sure they are good FA counters. And ok, as apologies for my grumpiness, da gege, your meimei here give you one tip now (everyone else watching? bwahahha):

You're holding STE already. If it should drop to more than divvy yield from its current price, look to buy in. Very, very strong insti buy on this counter even in this week. Not to mention it's in the top 15 earners for the year. ;)

Asterisk: contra don't need $$$ in bank acct, but in this volatile market, i highly suggest you have at least enough to pay up a stop-loss of whatever % you decide your stop-loss is to be?

giantlow, well, it's a loss, but there's a sense of relief it's over, isn't it? :) don't worry, i'm sure you'll do better next time. Just don't go making rash decision anymore ok? good boy. *patpat*

and has anyone noticed that our fellowship thread has lost one star from its rating? perhaps we should steer it back on its journey toward the mountain of profit eh? we're only four star now. weh weh weh. haha.
