just to let ya know that STE has very strong buy vols still. largest buy of 656 lots at 16:54 pm. Quite a lot of selling tho, my guess is a large part of it was forced. cheers!

Macq if trying tmrw can try for 2c below closing.

SCI: not yet. it's on DBSVB's buy list tho for AFTER current correction. Resp on their buy list: Keppel, SCI, STE, SPH, Comfort, Singtel, STarhub.

i'd personally strike singtel off that list 'cos i've seen its buy/sell vols for the past two weeks. Starhub vs M1, M1 is a better buy for divvy yield.

elf on course for the rest of this week, so no posting! everyone, keep alive! :))))

Hi geojam,

Thanks.. .yah you're right .... that makes sense. Let me then refine my theory -

There are 3 levels of effects:
(1) Internal
(2) Industry-wide
(3) Market-wide

If the negative effects are market wide, then TA people should avoid the stock market in general. If industry-wide, then we should avoid that industry for now. If its just purely internal, then we avoid only that counter.

word of caution to the vested: consider cutting loss on all speculatives if dow tanks tonight.

even for FA counters. Few are truly solid.

Those itching to jump in, WAIT. Everything depends on the dow tonight.

U said that if it is an internal thing,it will not affect other counters.?

My thoughts are,it will.It will affect those in the same industries.Say,if DBS post a bad result,it will have an influence on UOB and OCBC.

cheers

chinkiasu... hahaha...

If that place is not so crowded, you'll feel even colder than that... :)

Anyway, there's great comfort in even a little bit of warmth where there's none otherwise.

I have a simple belief that I would like to share with all of you. It will probably be over-simplistic to some of you gurus.  :)

Let me know what you think -

I  believe that 2 things generally affect a counter's price and volume - internal and external environment.

If negative things happen to either its internal or external environment, the counter's price takes a nose dive. If its an internal thing, the drop in price doesn't really affect its external environment and will not affect other counters.

However, if its an external factor (like the current market condition), it will affect most counters in the market.

For me, as a TA person, I will avoid the market totally if massive negative external factors are at play. The negativity will reflect in the TA charts. We will find that most counters in the market will show sell signals.

elf,

Response to some of your comments:

SPC: Reasons its on my radar are:

FA is very sound....P/E, Yield etc.

Growth...Oyang Field.

Also, bear in mind 2006 results were impacted by $71m (13.8cts/sh)stock write down; $12.6m (2.4cts/sh) impairment of investment and drilling expense write off. Historically, these write downs are exceptionally high.

GMG/Courage : Besides the FA of pennies, they also offer opportunities in % increases in each 'bid jump'. Say for e.g. a 15cts stock...each bid is 0.5cts...this is 3.33% jump for each bid. So, for an undervalued penny stock, the possibility of higher % capital gain is better. Of course, it can cut the other way.

SCI: Yes, if you strip out all the one off gains of 2006, its valuations are pretty stretched. But, it is a purer 'Energy" (not oil) play. Besides its SCM, I am optimistic about its utilities.

OCBC: Of the 3 banks, I feel OCBC offers the best value...I was vested in 2006...but slow moving, got impatient and divested it. Then, as my luck would have it, it started to make its upward move after that.

aiyah. lausk22, i'm always getting that same comment in real life (that i sound older than i really am). so nothing new there. i know it's difficult for some to believe, but well, i don't gotta prove anything to anyone.

and haha. i don't particularly care about the personal opinions of others on myself. "To thine own self be true."--Hamlet.

In SJ i'm looking to learn, and to improve my accuracy in making calls. Since in the market it is not age that counts, but accuracy.

Also, it's a fallacy that age, experience and wisdom are proportionately related. Eg, an Iraqi child would be older and wiser than an average one of the same age here.

But aiyah, this topic's boring. i don't see why my age (or any one else's for that matter) should be an issue at all. It never crossed my mind. Focus on the market people! keke.
