some latest news from Straits Times:
SIA invites offers for Virgin stake
SINGAPORE Airlines , the world's second-biggest airline by market value, said on Wednesday it was open to offers for its 49 per cent stake in Richard Branson's trans-Atlantic airline Virgin Atlantic .
'It's not a secret that we regard it as an undeperforming investment. We are still reviewing our plans and are open to all offers,' Singapore Airlines Chief Executive Chew Choon Seng told a results briefing.
Mr Chew also said the company faced no shareholder pressure to cut its stakes in aircraft maintenance firm SIA Engineering and groundhandling firm Singapore Airport Terminal Services (SATS) but was reviewing those holdings at regular intervals.
SIA says S$1 dividend sustainable
At the results briefing, SIA also said on Wednesday it could maintain an annual dividend payout of S$1.
'An annual payout rate of S$1 a share is affordable and sustainable,' Mr Chew Choon Seng said.
SIA, 55-per cent owned by state investment firm Temasek , on Tuesday announced a dividend of S$1 for its 2007/08 business year as it reported a smaller-than-expected 21 per cent fall in quarterly profit and warned of slower demand due to the ongoing global market turmoil amid record fuel costs. -- REUTERS

How abt SIA?
United Airlines shares plummet on 1Q loss, planned cuts - AP - 36 minutes ago
United Airlines parent UAL Corp. lost about a third of its market value Tuesday after reporting a $537 million first-quarter loss due to soaring fuel costs and saying it is cutting flights and 1,100 jobs.
If one can recall, the recent peak of SIA was $20.20....... in Oct 2007....
And SIA was trading under $12 during 2006 ... and at a low of 9.60 in May 2004...
And current price for SIA is considered very high in terms of valuation as one has to bear in mind that USA is cutting down their capital investment plan.... and similarly.... less investment plan means less corporate travel..... and reading from most recent SIA announcement... SIA is having lower load factor for passenger due to increase in capacity.... ==> more cost per passenger...
With the recent A380 fuel pump trouble... premium passenger who are concerned about time... may not like the delay.....
And it seems that 380 is not a good number ex A380 plane delivery delay, A380 pump trouble.... offer price 3.80 for Eastern Airlines get voted down....

DJ MARKET TALK: CIMB Cuts SIA Target To S$21.50; Keeps Outperform
0149 GMT [Dow Jones] STOCK CALL: CIMB cuts Singapore Airlines (C6L.SG) target price to S$21.50 from S$23.00; maintains Outperform rating. Says lower target is due to reduced earnings forecasts; cuts FY09-10 forecasts 12%, 4.5% on higher oil price assumptions. Notes, stock trading at trough level valuation; says, "these crisis-level valuations are undeserved given the relatively high fuel hedge cover, continued strong demand, and the higher yields and fuel efficiency from the A380 and B777-300ER planes." Adds, SIA remains top pick amongst regional airlines.
SIA is a good buy, esp Crude Oil plunged lately. But needs to observe the market trend. When the market declines to its lowest, buy in is the call. Good luck. Cheers.
