Yeah, you are right......the chicken rice ball is highly overrated. Anyway, there are lots of other goodies to try at malacca.
For authentic Peranakan - try Nancy's Kitchen - 7 Jln Hang Lekir.it is one of the link road between Jonker t and Heeren St.....the tourist/conservation area.
For dinner, there is an excellant tandoori, naan and byrani place at Jln Kota Laksamana. Not sure of the exact address but if you go along Jln Kota Laksamana towards the new highway to Mahkota, it is one of the shophouse on the right....there is a 7-11 at the same block. Tables are spread onto the layby road.
Putu Piring........hard to describe the place...open at night operate from the verandah of a house. Proceed north along Heeren St towards the coastal road. There is a pink house with a faded 'Singer Sewing machine' and Total Oil signboard. Better to recce in the day cos at night, will be hard to locate. Can also ask Nancy for directions.
There is also an excellent authentic Malay satay stall....in a kampong along Bukit Baru......behind the main mosque.....on the way in from Ayer Keroh to Malacca. Opens from about 3-4 pm to about 7 pm...but not everyday. So, you gotta try your luck.....sorry, I don't have the address but I know how to get there. Nancy can help too.
Wonton mee - coffee shop along Heeren rd just after the junction with Jln Kota Laksamana.....texture of the noodles and sauce is just right.

It reminds me of 'ice balls'...
In those days, we use to suck on it while holding it in the palm.
Not a very sophisticated way to quench thirst, but quite fun.... hehehe...
I just came back from a Malacca trip and tried the Chicken rice balls.
Frankly... no big deal leh...... rice balls are round and starchy. Served lukewarm....
I still prefer our Singapore chicken rice.

This thread is ideal for non-stock market topics, etc...

Hong Kong | Macau | Taipei | Bangkok | |
Airport tax & surcharge (go) | $ 60.00 | $ 75.00 | $ 157.00 | $ 83.00 |
Airport tax & surcharge(back) | $ 74.00 | $ 74.00 | $ 152.00 | $ 97.00 |
Total: | $ 134.00 | $ 149.00 | $ 309.00 | $ 180.00 |
2 person | $ 268.00 | $ 298.00 | $ 618.00 | $ 360.00 |
these are purely surchage and tax, so, with $ 8 two-ways, $ 16 + $149 = $165 one person (2 ways) indeed cheap~
$165 includes the fuel surcharge?
If so, that's quite cheap.
