Someone mention that $700k will last him a lifetime. Last week, one of my colleague asked me "How much money should she have to put into FD without working ?" I asked her how much does she need per month. Ans : Very cheap $2k per month.

Taking Fd to be at 2.4% pa, $2000/0.2% = $1 million. But don't forget that money value depreciates by 50% every 10 years. So $2000 now is equivalent $1000 in 10 years time. That means she has to put in another $1 million in these 10 years. In other words, still have to work. So FD is not the best investment!

and lastly but certainly not the least, to my dear elf,

sorry, that you couldnt read & missed most of the emoticons posted in your absence.. I didnt realise that there was a default cookie in them that limits the time of display...  I did repost some for baseerahmed, bunnie to read for a while,  but unfortunately it relaspse back into default advertisment mode..   I can repost again for you, but it would mean more adverts which will not be good for SJ, they rely on fee paying companies to pay for maintenance of this site.. (if you wish, you could ask your godpa Geojam or bunnie who saw them to tell you about it.. but I was just clowning to while away the time so actually nothing really useful )

hi bunnie, i was re reading some of the earlier thread.. an then I note I was asked this question about snake blood .. I wish to say, I never touched the blood.. personally I believe it is very dangerous to drink blood because it can contain virus that while it may be ok to the host (the animal) and even locals, but it can cause big problems for us. So in this trip to China,  if you want to try snake meat ok, but avoid the gall and most of all dont drink the blood.... have a good & safe trip & journey mercies.. Image

hello, Ipunter.. I thank you and felt honoured to be call  "friend".. and thank you again for your encouragement &r gracious thots.. but no, I am truely far away from being in Soloman's league..  My thots are sometimes quotations from the Good Book.. which I find to be the most profound in wisdom.. I just happen to memorise them or know where to find them when neccessary... and trying to apply them myself..  Rainbow

actually, re Soloman.(he lived about 3000 yrs ago). I also recalled that despite him being a very wise man, like all men, he made mistakes too... because he had so many wives, after him the Israeli kingdom broke apart upon his death, and then the whole country went into a state of decline.. the end of which the Israeli people were captured and exiled to Babylon... Image and then again taken to Iran, but the remnant is still preserved and in later period they returned back to Jerusalem...then that is another bigger story..

ha ha ha... my dear Choohian,

Now I know you dont whistle.. but then you can think of the song.. "I whistle a happy tune... by Julie Andrews"

Oh toronto... the tallest tower in the world resides there since 70's.. I remembered driving the Mac Donald Cartier Freeway sometime back at a rather high speed (I was a young kid then).. then to my horror, I sighted a patrol car hidden in the valley divider two miles away (reminds me so much of a lion waiting for it hapless prey).. immediately I jammed the brakes.. and tried to slow down, then cruised pass them, only to see in my backview mirrow the police car coming out of their hideout.. blue lights flashing.. next scene.. sir, can I see your license.. mm do you speak English.. sir, you cannot drive like bullet train here.. we had clocked you at 120 mph..!  Dont do that again, this is Canada, not Japan.. I said yes sir, sori sorly... then sheepishly drove away and learnt a lesson......  recently I note Toronto has a very big Chinatown.. so you visiting relatives?  do have a good trip hope you see the blossoms...

thank u chinkiasu,sir

now i see why this issue of granite is headline issue.

The other day was watching TV on how the pirates operate along the straits of malacca. They can "attack" the ship and go off in as quick as 15 minutes.

The journalist ask why the pirates do it?They point to the spore highrise and indicating we are not sharing the wealth with them.

cheers

ok lah, Geojam.. why you also like that.. you can always treat my "sir" as a punctuation mark if inevidently I used it (I use sir, quite often in my everyday speech, even with teenagers) .... or even a form of endearment.. like Uncle as Bunnie would say..

I actually pick it up when I stayed awhile in Virginia/NC/SC USA for work reasons. there the folks used it quite often (even in the business circles).. I thot then and till now that it was rather nice word to use.. to start a conversation..

yes, my dear Geojam,  it is granite aggregate (little chips).. the stuff for making concrete when mixed with sand and cement...  in earlier years we get them by blasting Bukit Timah hill, Bukit Gombak etc  (and forming the Singapore Guilins in the process)  but nowadays we buy them from Indonesia (Riau Islands).

My personal gut feel is that as Singapore is boasting of becoming world class city.. Soon Singapore will have properites at Manhatten prices, some ppl think we should not take them for granted... they say Butt why you so rich and now gloating about it some more.. of course by banning sand export, some Indo ppl will benefit in supervising the ban.. it is like the alcohol prohibition the Al Capones get rich...

what should we do... excercise full caution on all construction companies ...  this is my personal readRead

let me continue my msg to Bunnie... do stay the course.. no need to change your posting on this thread bcoz ppl might misunderstand you.. there are many who will understand and appreciate you (I am certainly one of them)...for example I am going add this emoticon  Image

just be true to yourself and be guided by the Spirit that dwells within you...  and yes you may call me Uncle Kiasu.. as I call you Auntie Bunnie I am reminded (actually associated you in the same light) of Wong Fei Hong story, who has the SDU element in the form of 13th Auntie, younger then our hero but and in genealogy same tier as our hero's father... I really like that character too..

yes Geojam, sir... I am more than vested but this time in proper shares, not *expletives deleted* warrants.  I took advantage of the recent meltdown and bought some more... for divvy play... you would note I am still paying attention in the SPC thread...

re my "sir" comments.. just an incident that happened to me a while ago to share with you...  hawker stall in food court.. the owner delivered to me and then wished me "Enjoy your drink sir: have a good day"... I was stunt.. then i realise there is a recent promotion by WDA, class is being conducted for hawker stall owners to attend upgrading service lessons, and this uncle serving me has finished the course....  this is globalisation in action... my dear Uncle Oldie... ops, I should now address you as Yongjiu, sir,  many thanks for your kind thots...Image   (dont know which side to step on and therefore threading very carefully)

may I also take this opportunity to say my salams to Auntie Bunnie and add a few words...  actually I understood you perfectly when you said the things to ze aunties et al.. I personally thot it was very well put and so humourous.. your are saying it is about as likely as the Singapore government legislating same sex marriage as your going to settle down..  and why should you want to settle down so soon when you has so much you want to do, a family would immediately tie you down,  certainly you would not be able to travel to China which next week ...

btw, bunnie.. I had meant to let you in on this for easter, since you may not be able to access the internet then, let me do this now.  .....

do you see this double bunnie   No, this is not another double vision test... you are seeing ok, so no need to drink more water..  it is that please click on it... it is a link to a message.. will all my well wishes particularly to you and the Fellowship....

hi people, oops, sorry to have started all this les/gay talk because of my remark in my posting earlier. once again, it slipped my mind that this is a public forum afterall. and public (people) tends to believe what they read/see without using their brains much.

asterisk, i don't think it concerns anyone here whether i am les or otherwise :) that comment was to shut those sanba lao aunties. unless u give me a reason to, else i don't think there is any need for me to shut u up right? *smiles*

dear l_tan, thanks for the link. have added to faves :)

uncle yongjiu! no worries, u didn't put me in a spot :) in fact, u are one of the few whom i like to chat with on SJ. but maybe should not discuss so much on pte life since public (people) tend to read with non-understanding :)
