Hey Asterisk,
I saw your post on the apology.... its ok. Don't worry about it.
It wasn't really offensive or insensitive......but I just thought that I should probably just alert you all in case it actually got to that stage.

asterisk and ipunter, keke, yea, keep conversation here clean lah....we're in public after all. asterisk, it's ok, you're a newbie, we'll all excuse the newbie, right? ipunter, don't worry either. :)
on the topic of gender equality and gentlemen tho: I feel that people tend to mix up equality with being straightforward equals, when what men and women, in actuality, are complementary.
In other words, if it is strength, or being in competition, that you are talking about, then, the strength of a woman is very much different from the strength of a man. And, as Anais Nin once said, if a woman were to compete with a man on his strength, his terms, she will always lose.
The point is that there's masculine strength, and there's feminine strength. There are more than one ways to win a war, an argument (or hey, the stock market!). Neither's right or wrong. And haha, this is just my personal view, but if i were to have to compete with a guy, i wouldn't use the masculine way of aggression and authority. I'd use persuasion and influence.
so by appearing to submit, i'd actually win. :P
and that's elfin equality for you. haha.
Asterisk,
Elf works in Ministry of Home Affairs lah.
hullo ppl, i'm here, missed me? *muacks!* keke.
very long thread man....i'll just reply arbitrarily yeah. ipunter, don't worry, won't mistake your words for romantic interest; the tone is not there lah. plus, you're mind first anyway, rather than heart first. if you know what i mean? (aka thinker rather than feeler).
chinkiasu, thanks for the emoticons yea. really much appreciated. sorry to hear you were sick. get well soon. :) and keke, i like that mooning emoticon leh. keke.
sporeguy....gah. you're so analytical! not online doesn't nece mean on hols leh....singaporegal, i have been very, very busy with work lately; really too tired to post. plus, did call the market as range-bound volatile alr, so thus far have seen no need to change that call....actually sporeguy, abt my occupation, so that once and for all put all your curiosity to rest....elf works in counterterrorism. 'nuff said.
Hey geojam,
Where's elf? Haven't seen her posts for the last couple of days.

I meant investment that will give a min return of 5%. Stock such as STE, etc.and at the same time capital gain will be a bonus.
People wants to stop working because they are not happy in their working environment. They have do what is politically correct not what they think is correct. They have to show case their achievement instead of concentrating on achieving for their customers.
I_tan888, You should ask the oldies especially the ones above 65 like myself (Ha! Ha! Ha!. Now, you and everyone else know my age). Their children will have to pay for their medical. You know what I mean. I am telling you that what you save may not be enough if parent/s need their children to pay. Think about this point.
Sorry, I forgot to add that all my proposals take into consideration that the holder continues to work. Afterall why stop working during one's middle age, which is also the prime years?
That is why my $100k cash deposit acts as a good buffer. At worst, sell the shares and eventually downgrade to a smaller house.
Please do remember medical fees. It is better to die than to get sick. Sorry for saying so, but it is true.
Sporeguy,
With $700k and for someone middle aged, I'll breakdown as follows:
$350k - use to buy house (with loan of course)
$250k - for stocks and shares.
$100k - cash deposit
The above are my preferrred allocation.
5% is not big deal really.SPC shares are paying like 7.95%.Spore post is paying like 5.5%,just to name a few.
yeah boy, that is the only book i read.hahaha.
Do not know what TA books all about------put me to sleep for sure.
In other words, only investment with return of 5% pa is considered good. Must read Rich Dad Poor Dad again to get its gist!
yes agreed with u.
also do not forget that if she invest S$1mill into shares for 5% return, the shares (good ones and long term)may grow in capital gains too.
I reckon that the return on $1M should be about 5% in order to have a $4200 return per month with $2000 for expendicture and remaining $2200 back into the "investment" to cover up the inflation..
Sorry S$700k not enough for she is too young.
And further more put in FD to get 2.4%,what a joke.
35 years old, just qualify for single to buy 3 rm HDB flat
How old is ur friend?
S$700k is enough if she knows when she is going to die.Touch wood.
