There are 3 levels to consider depends on the extent of panic selling, can look at : Smiley 304

(1) $1.37, Friday (4/6)'s low,

(2) $1.33, last Tuesday (1/6) or Wednesday (2/6)'s low and

(3) $1.30, strongest support on 25/5.

If these 3 levels are broken, then better stay aside and wait for the next bottom-up signal. Smiley 288

COSCO's Capt. Wei and NITC's Chairman Souri honoured at Seatrade Awards

London: Capt. Wei Jia-fu, President & CEO of COSCO, received a special Lifetime Achievement Award and NITC Chairman Mohammad Souri won Personality of the Year at the 22nd Seatrade Awards held last night in the Guildhall, London.

Announcing Capt. Wei's honour was Mr  Xing Liangzhong of Dalian Port Corporation Ltd, sponsor of the award, in the presence of IMO Secretary-General Efthimios Mitropoulos, Guest of Honour First Sea Lord and Chief of Naval Staff Adm. Sir Mark Stanhope and over 300 guests.

“To me, this Lifetime Achievement award is not an end to my service for our industry, instead, it is just a new beginning from where I have to work even harder to make sure that our shipping industry is safer, cleaner and more efficient,” said Capt. Wei.

COSCO ready to pump more money into Greece

Athens: China and COSCO are ready to begin investing in Greece, horizontally and vertically in terms of shipping activities, if an agreement with Greek authorities is reached, Capt. Wei Jiafu, president and CEO of COSCO, emphasised during a meeting in Athens with Economy, Competitiveness and Shipping Minister Louka Katseli on Wednesday.

The meeting, which also included Theodore Veniamis, the president of the Union of Greek Shiponwers, representatives from the tourism and business sectors and the president of the Hellenic Banks' Association, V. Rapanos, covered all business and shipping (ANA-MPA) plans between China and Greece. Capt. Wei is currently on an official four-day visit to Greece, accompanied by high-ranking officials of COSCO, a Chinese state organisation.
COSCO has already established activities at the Ikonio cargo terminal of Piraeus port. [20/05/10]

Capesize freight rates fall 11%

Capesize freight rates fell 11% last week on a lull in spot iron ore demand. Average rates for capesize freight rates fell to $44,441 per day last week 11% lower compared to the previous week. “Capesize freight rates decreased as we expected last week due to what is most likely a lull in spot iron ore and steel demand,” said Commodore Research in its weekly report. This was despite 21 vessels been fixed to carry iron ore last week, one more than the previous week. Two-thirds of the iron ore shipments were destined for China. “Going forward, declining steel and iron ore prices are still a cause for concern and we still remain cautious that dry bulk freight rates will continue to come under pressure in the immediate future,” the report said
