CO soared alrdy pinched SIA lately. Now Cathay Pc 7.8% profit variant as compared to last qtr further agitatting its price. However, comparing apple and orange is out of logic. Cathay n SIA hv diff management stredegies. SIA is the top capitalisation(12.8b) airline in the world(just overtaken Air China due to poor market) whereas Cathay is just only third in ASIA.

Definitly SIA last qtr performance would be affected but as Chairman stated earlier they still can stradegically to make the coy stay alive.

Thought of clearing half of my portfolio this morning but later decided not to loh.

they will be sold down after july 31st, dividend payout of 0.80... that's about 5.7% yield of the current price, will be hit hard to 13.20 easily if the next day is dividend ex date......

Singapore Airlines tumbled to hit a 15-week low after Cathay Pacific warned investors of "disappointing" H1 earnings due to soaring fuel prices, dealers said.

"The market took the news quite seriously and badly because Cathay Pacific is efficiently-run, and it tells you that SIA might face the same problem because of oil prices," said a dealer.

Cathay Pacific, Asia's 3rd most valuable carrier, said its profit warning came after it was forced to pay 60% more for jet fuel in the first 6 months, on average.

But analysts noted that for Cathay, fuel surcharges were subject to approval by authorities.

"SIA is not subject to any such restrictions by S'pore authorities for flights out of S'pore, essentially having a free hand in raising fuel surcharges," analyst K Ajith of UOB Kay Hian said in a research note.

From historicals, my take is SIA should be well-supported around $13.30 unless out of the blues, something similar to SARS and 911 events return. Then finito leow.

Singapore Airlines collects fifth Airbus jet
11 hours ago

SINGAPORE (AFP) — Singapore Airlines has taken delivery of its fifth Airbus A380 superjumbo which will be used for its Singapore-London service starting on July 16, the carrier said.

The A380 will be the second deployed for the London service after the world's biggest plane made its debut at Heathrow Airport on a Singapore Airlines (SIA) flight from the city-state in March.

its agood buy at this stage. however with disruption supply fr Niegeria and threntening cutting off supply fr Iran, that is another ball game leow, though Saudi agreed to increase output to ease the global tight supply, lately.

hence, to observe the situation closely and act accordingly is the way to make your cash worth leow. AK view only, as I vested few as well, to aim for the div.

Kim Eng downgrades Singapore Airlines to Hold from Buy, cuts target price to $15.60 from $19.20. Broker cuts earnings forecasts to reflect higher fuel costs; cuts FY09, FY10 estimates by 20%, 15%, respectively. Notes jet fuel prices up 20% over past 2 months, though SIA can offset some of this through hedging, increased efficiency of new aircraft. Says SIA should still be able to increase revenue despite slower global economy, expects yields to remain robust, recent load factor data reassuring. Says SIA "will continue to outshine its peers financially," but adds concerns of higher fuel costs will continue to weigh on share, new target price offers little upside from current share price.

Singapore Airlines posted "encouraging" passenger load factor for May, with 9.0% growth in passenger kilometers nearly matching 9.2% capacity increase, UOB-KayHian says in report. Notes number of passengers carried +5.9%, marking highest growth level for the year. "All in all, this suggests that demand for air travel remains strong. However, load factors do not give an indication of yield. One of our main concerns for SIA is its exposure to premium traffic and there are indications from travel planners that demand for business traffic has slowed down." Keeps at Sell with fair value at $14.30.
