Tried it on the child (SATS) - now I am trying it on the mother. Just shorted SIA today at $15.90 in anticipation that the gap down tomorrow will be substantially more than the dividend of 80 cents.
AK, i was at the agm yesterday. Let me try to recollect and summarise what the chairman said in reply to a shareholder's question on the sustainability of the $1 ordinary dividend in future years, bearing in mind all the challenges that the company is facing.
Chairman said the board's decision to pay a final ordinary dividend of $0.80 was taken at a time before the oil price spiked up suddenly this year. Looking at their current and future funding needs, company can afford to pay that dividend. Company's intend to maintain the $1 ordinary dividend payout barring any unforseen external shock.
contra few at 15.84/15.86 for kopi $. still holding few for div come 31. foresee CO will dip further, hence will hold this burger before mooncake festival.
as the consordium claimed that they still can affort to pay a dollar div per share, further added the confidence for the traders to acc and incubate it. hinted, means its next interim div is min 20cts. don't forget, they didn't announce special div during yesterday AGM. the coy stilll hold cash which supposed to buy 24% stake on China Eastern Airline.
2morrow is XD, suggest don't buy in now. reiterate again, take St Trading as an example.
on the other hand, as mentioned above, if CO keep on dropping, it is a good stock to keep. its record high is 20.20. look out for other transport coys as well. AK views only.
It will be gap down on 31 July ... as it is ex Div ...on 30th ... so beware ...
SIA most likely to trend down to $12.50 when there is a recession .... let's see what SIA going to say on 30th July Briefing ....
Attended the agm this morning, nothing exciting just normal business.
Foods, although not beyond first class, were reasonably good compared to many other shareholder meetings. No girls in kebaya at all. ..yawnnn.
The SIA Group turned in a first quarter net profit attributable to equity
holders of $359 million, a decline of $65 million (-15.4%) from the same quarter in
the preceding year.
Group revenue improved $510 million (+14.1%) on the back of growth
in passenger carriage. However, Group expenditure increased by a higher amount of
$630 million (+19.9%) as a result of higher fuel cost.
Expenditure on fuel for the Group rose by $739 million (+64.7%) as fuel
prices reached new highs during the quarter. This was partially mitigated by hedging
gains of $349 million.
Group operating profit at $343 million was $120 million (-25.9%) lower
year-on-year.
The operating profit of the Parent Airline Company declined $118 million (-30.8%) from the corresponding period in the previous year, on account of higher expenditure on fuel which increased 70.6% to $1,557 million.
Excluding fuel, passenger unit cost actually declined 2.2% as increase in non-fuel cost was held at a
rate less than that of growth in capacity produced (7.2% versus 9.4% capacity growth).
