NOL faces fall in European rates, says UBS
Analysts lower EPS estimates by 8%, cut target stock price, keep 'neutral' rating

SINGAPORE) Neptune Orient Lines, South-east Asia's largest sea-cargo carrier, may report lower Asia-Europe freight rates in the second half of the year as volume growth on the trade lane slows, UBS said.

UBS analysts Alex Chang and Ronald Keung lowered earnings per share estimates for the company by as much as 8 per cent between 2008 and 2010, according to a report last Friday.

UBS also cut the target price for the shipping company's stock by 15 per cent to $3.30 while retaining a 'neutral' rating.

No lah, I think the other Ang Mo more ingredients, or holding bigger gun thus can shoot more smoke to bring in more revenues. Now at this economy going down, they also face music if cannot perform, is the same everywhere. So many example, look at Jackson Tai of DBS, same one leh :  at 1st say not much hit or kena from Subprime, then end up got to pack up and give some cukoo reason like left for self-interest or need to spend more time home with family in Canada. All crap reasons when they not perform and need to go means need to go, this is real world not some reality show of challenge for 1 hrs variety show.

Life is hard especially in economy downtime. Pull and hold tight to your cash, everything is gimmick or not truth, only CASH is KING. Look at Oei, he managed to hold on cash, by selling Natseel, that is a smart move. Good Luck to all, hold on to more cash. Take care.

TA is still not positive yet. However, it has reached almost the low in this 12 mths. But low can go lower. FA=> slow-down will affect shipping as there is fewer goods to transport. Baltic Index is also down indicating slow-down. I'll wait.

The price listed now is pretty reasonable to me. We still need one big PANIC in US market to find its bottom. Most stocks seems to be on GSS now though.

Last 10 mins bringing the price down by 5 cents thru a series of transactions.  Must be the work of "experts"!  Be cautious!

There must be some development known to some people, which explains the greens in a sea of red. Read some interesting possibilities on this counter.  It's either Acq or mergers, or take private NOL. Time will tell.

shplayer. typical gahmen talk: "it was an honest mistake, no point finding fault. let's close ranks and move on."

in this way, things like letting msk go, prisoners escaping, wrong passport also can fly out of country, wrong investments ala suzhou industrial park, investing in UBS, ML, Barclays etcetc, are all excused.

Honest mistakes what.

no wonder why so many of our kids want to become 'top scholars' and enter civil service. it's a verified ride to the top without ever having to be responsible for your mistakes, while taking credit for all the successes. If you ever make an honest mistake, the worst that happens is that you go into the PMO, or you get directorship of a GLC upon losing your post.

High salaries, people jumping at your beck and call, never having to own up to mistakes but can be faceless instead and "let's move on". They don't call it an iron rice bowl for nothing. Who doesn't want this kind of job.

haha.

Reasonable? Even Buffett refused to buy out the banks when given the chance in a fire sale. We're a country of followers, not thinkers.

personally not a strong fan of temasek, but do have to agree that in the long term, their buys should be reasonable

shplayer      ( Date: 25-Jun-2008 19:52) Posted:

Yes, I am sure Temasek did their homework when they invested in Shin Corp, Barclays, Telecomsil, UBS, Merrill Lynch, .....just to name a few. Despite their risk/reward assessment, many 'Honest Mistakes' were made?

jasonongsc      ( Date: 25-Jun-2008 15:37) Posted:

no risk, no gain. guess temasek would have done their homework before going for the bid

Perhaps they are looking into the longer term. If times were better than this, I wouldn't guess these foreign banks will want to sell to Temasek.  Sometimes, it's the circumstances that creates the opportunities. And opportunities don't always knock twice.  Think long term is probably the strategy. Just my personal view.
