It seems that NOL is going to trend downwards drastically ....

All time low below 20 cents for NOL 10 years ago ....

What is the price target if NOL were to make a loss in the next quarter??

NOL Q3 net slides 82 pct, sees Q4 operating loss

SINGAPORE, Oct 29 (Reuters) - Singapore's Neptune Orient Lines (NOL) (NEPS.SI: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) posted on Wednesday an 82 percent drop in third-quarter net profit, hurt by falling demand for container shipping and higher oil prices.

The firm said it expected an operating loss in the fourth quarter as it saw a more pronounced and prolonged downturn.

Prepare to short this fellow tomorrow morning.... hehe...........

With NOL size, it is agree that there is simply no way to repay any loan, taken for HL acq., in a short period of time.  HL profit margin is also lower than NOL, it will drag down NOL.

Plus the sudden freeze in letter of credit issue from bank, trade is going to be hit.

If I am not wrong, BDI may not be a suitable measure for NOL as BDI is for bulk carrier in commodity. STX has a high bulk carrier component. Also Korea is in trouble, bank run out of USD.

This current Q for NOL profit will still hold as the latest report shows a uptrend.  Of course, I do expect a sudden big drop on the next reporting period.

Anyway, this is really not a good time to talk about stock. If you have exited, just keep your cash.

If you have vested in NOL like me, I can wait.  I still believe in a few years, it will recover.

This crisis will pass and have to pass.  Failure to resolve will result in War, Riots and Breakdown in Law and Order on a massive scale.  Something no one on this planet has ever seen before.

In this case, NOL will not be my priority of concern......heeee....Just my thoughts.

BTW, try to be debt free......totally, if possible.

NOL - Stopped Bidding For Hapag we see...Go to Sotheby's

On 10 October 2008 , NOL made an announcement that they are no longer bidding for Hapag Lloyd. Why? Is it a wise move...Let's look at NOL's financial strength to find clues.

Income Statement( ABOVE)

NOL's gross margin is 12.6%. ( Not high, but its the container business remember...competitive and high fuel cost)
NOL's net profit is 4.3%. ( ?????.WTF?World Trade Federation.)

Balance Sheet (ABOVE)

NOL's debt repayment : Current Assets less than Current Liabilities. (hmm..)

Cash Flow (ABOVE)

NOL's cash flow from operations are positive BUT when deducting capital expenditure. Its negative! ( What we are doing here, in JARGONIC terms is calculating free cash flow. In simplified terms, its just the excess cash over the cash that must be spent on sustaining the business..Like most human beings get cash for salary, and we need to spend cash on food, or education e.t.c to live in this world..and the excess is free cash flow!)

Worth of Company (ABOVE)

NOL's worth of the company is US$1.85. Its worth as of now 19 Sep 2008, S$1.5. (But this is common now!....cheapskate companies everywhere! So no big deal!)

The Baltic Dry Index measures the demand for shipping capacity against the supply of Bulk carriers. See how it has plunged! A very strong indicator of the upcoming storm.......SGDividends say brace yourself....incoming......

<$1 can consider... it was 80 cents++ in year 2003.. somemore, BDI bleeding every single days... and you know exports is slowing and is going to get slower and slower in year 2009.... definitely going to squeeze their profit margin..

definitely can wait again.

After paying so much school fee, NOL just got smarter.....or is it the downturn is reaching the extreme.

Hi SupremeA,

Totally agree, the HL will burst the DAR.  But again, how good is the chance of NOL taking HL ?

IMO, very low. German, die die must have HL.

Or NOL becomes an entity to new HL listed in some euro exhng???

I think TUI may withdraw the HL and keep it in their stable for a while.  The money market has dry up.  From BT report, TUI want to close the deal by this weekend instead of end-october.
Time running out for Hapag-Lloyd deal

From BT

The biggest danger is that TUI simply takes the deal off the table......

Reports say that TUI major shareholder John Fredriksen, who pushed for the sale in the first place, is now urging the management to call it off.......

TUI would be unwilling to accept anything less than four billion euros (S$8.4 billion), while it is believed that NOL is not likely to offer much more than three billion euros.......

http://www.businesstimes.com.sg/sub/companies/story/0,4574,298623,00.html

Probably NOL can buy it for 2B EUR by next year.......heeeee.  Cheap get cheaper perhaps....??
