IMF also came out with  another forecast that global trade will contract by more than 1 percent this year. With so much money already pumped into the system, I'll be surprise if it does not have any impact on GDP(headline) numbers. Where NOL is concerned there is a glut or over capacity issue to deal with.

The $0.80 target price was abit puzzling given the not so dire scenarios they put out in their research papers recently.

The IMF is positive of a global economic recovery as seen by their recent statement on the global economic front.  So I think we in Singapore should not stick to our no green shoots phylosophy.

First quarter loss alone-$240million. Consensus for the whole of 2009 was for a loss of $258million (I stand corrected). In 1single qtr alone it almost reached the consensus loss for the entire year 2009.

Traditionally a slow quarter and analysts did point out that they expect exports to improve in subsequent quarters. Better take that with a pinch of salt.

Thanks for the sharing, losses for the First quarter is going to be huge. Look at its share price, i guess it has already been factor in.

Target price from the Analysts was low about 80 Cents. I don't trust that, it's all bull shit.

You are daring, you deserve the rewards.

Will panic when market sentiment change.Must be very very careful when playing this counter. I'll bet my house that they need to raise capital soon while the going is good.

Everyone appears to be buying into a an American spinned recovery. It took a year to admit they were in recession and to think that they just need a month and money printing to solve their problems? A tall tale really.

Good post. Reality check. Current price is out of this world. I won't be surprise if the issue of raising capital crops up.

Be very very careful:::

Read today's April 16 annoucement:

Neptune Orient Lines Limited (“NOL”) today announced that it anticipates its first quarter 2009 results (due to be reported on 12 May 2009) to show an estimated net loss of US$240 million (subject to finalisation), which is in excess of the net loss of US$149 million which the Group reported for 4Q 2008. The first quarter of the year is a seasonally slower period for the global container shipping sector. However, this deterioration in performance is also due to a worsening of business operating conditions in the first quarter.
On the expectation of adverse business operating conditions continuing, NOL expects its full year loss to be significantly worse than financial analysts’ current estimates. This is so notwithstanding the ongoing increased cost savings and mitigation efforts undertaken by NOL.
