Adds, 2nd-phase expansion of its gaming resort is " on track" , after earlier highlighting “possible delays” in its 1Q11 results announcement. Phase 2 involves the construction of the world's largest oceanarium, a 374-room hotel, a spa resort, beach villas, and a water theme park.

SINGAPORE: Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) said it is " on track" to open the second phase of its integrated resort, which includes a maritime museum, an aquarium and a marine life park.

On Friday, Chairman of the Genting Group and RWS, Lim Kok Thay, gave the assurance that the attractions will open progressively from the third quarter, starting with the maritime museum.

The marine life park will be ready by mid-2012.

The IR also announced it has completed the structure of its fifth hotel, Equarius, one of two new hotels under Phase 2.

Mr Lim was speaking ahead of the grand opening of Universal Studios Singapore on Saturday.

The two-day celebrations includes a Hollywood-style gala dinner on Friday, which will be attended by celebrities such as Paula Abdul, Jet Li and Maggie Cheung.

Mr Lim said he is open to more land acquisition opportunities for its expansion.

Mr Lim said: " More land is always better. But then you're talking about Singapore, where land like in Hong Kong, is at a premium. A theme park like this is always land-hungry. So obviously the more rides, the larger the park, you'll need more land.

" So perhaps in that sense, if we feel it will add more to tourism, definitely we will try to talk to the government. But as far as the rest of the resort is concerned, we've yet to complete it, and that's where our focus is."

He added that things are going as planned.

" Again, let me say we're right on top of it at the moment, but sometimes we just cannot avoid unexpected incidents."

RWS said it is expecting 16 million visitors this year, up from 15 million in 2010. It will target 75 per cent of tourists from overseas, with 90 per cent of them from Southeast Asia, India and China.

Universal Studios Singapore is also projecting four million visitors this year, double the number in the first nine months of its soft opening in March 2010.

The theme park may be one of the smallest in Asia, but Tom Williams, Chairman and CEO of Universal Parks and Resorts, said size does not matter.

He said: " Size is really irrelevant. It is all about the quality of the experience, the exciting nature of the rides and shows and attractions."

The theme park boasts 21 attractions, including the new Transformers ride slated to open later this year.

A spokesman on Friday revealed that three more attractions are in the pipeline, which will be ready by 2013.

They include two rides which will be unique to Singapore.

And to meet higher demand during the June holidays, the park will close later, at 9pm instead of 7pm. It will open as usual at 10am.

.. Buy on current weakness valuations relatively attractive
Genting Singapore’s share price declined almost 10% the last two weeks, post the  release of its 1Q11 results as well as its US$60mn investment into Goldnature Investments. We consider the stock to be particularly attractive on weakness. Its  13x/11x EV/EBITDA for 2011E/12E is in line with the regional average while its  21x/17x P/E for 2011E/12E is at a 5-10% discount to peers.


US$60mn investment – more to it than meets the eye?
While we appreciate and concur with investors’ concerns on utilization of S$2bn  cash on an apparently unrelated investment in a natural resource firm, our view is  based only on disclosed (very little) public information. Looking at the history of  the group, it has had a decent record of identifying and making seed investments  on a strategic basis to position itself favorably in jurisdictions that could liberalize  gaming activities (e.g., the investment into a Sri Lankan bank in May 2010).
Given the historical experience of minority shareholders, it was important that  management clarified in our recent conference that the stake buy in Goldnature is  not a related party transaction. It is driven by management and is not significant at S$0.006 per share, or less than 4% of its existing cash hoard.


Still significant growth opportunities in the VIP segment
While the VIP roll in RWS was down 12% sequentially, we believe investors
cannot look at the number on a standalone basis and have to look at it relative to  other matrices such as GGR (+19% Q/Q) and net win (+51% Q/Q). While mass  market in Singapore has probably reached a steady state with sequential growth  of 10% in 1Q11, we believe there are still significant growth opportunities in the VIP segment where RWS is still building up its capacity to fully tap by 2012.

Unless there is a major catastrophy in Singapore, it doesnt seem likely to tank to the pre-run level seen in Aug/Sep 10. Strong support level at $1.85.

On Tuesday, Genting SP re-test the resistance at $2.01 and closed at $2 with LOW volume of 68.95 million shares traded.

A white candle stick with short upper shadow indicates little profit taking as prices appraoches the minor resistance.

RSI & MACD are bearish as RSI trend downwards.
