Star Cruises obtains priority berthing rights
This will allow it to cross-market its offerings with RWS
By JAMIE LEE
STAR Cruises - held under Genting Hong Kong - has secured priority berthing rights with Singapore Cruise Centre's international passenger terminal at HarbourFront for 10 years.
 |
Smooth sailing: Both the SuperStar Virgo (above) and the SuperStar Libra will have S'pore as its home port |
The cruise operator said the agreement gave Star Cruises 'commercial and financial incentives' to expand its presence in Singapore, especially as its affiliated company, Resorts World Sentosa (RWS), has been pulling in more tourists. RWS - which is close to HarbourFront - is run by Genting Singapore.
'The proximity of RWS to the international passenger terminal and the berthing advantage provided will combine to give Genting Group greater flexibility to cross-market its offerings to cruise and integrated resort customers.'
Star Cruises, Singapore Cruise Centre's first cruise liner customer, has Singapore as its home port for the Asian flagship, SuperStar Virgo. Another cruise ship, the SuperStar Libra, will be home ported in Singapore for seasonal deployment from Nov 6.
Singapore Cruise Centre registered a record 900 ship calls and 1.14 million passenger throughput last year.
Tourism arrivals last month touched a record high for the month of September - translating to the 10th straight month-on- month record - thanks to the Singapore Grand Prix as well as the leisure and entertainment events during the season.
Visitor arrivals stood at 947,000, up 18.4 per cent year-on-year, latest data from the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) showed.
Indonesia, Malaysia, Australia, China, and India were the top five visitor- generating markets for the month, accounting for 58 per cent of total visitor arrivals, STB said.

Being able to read the market before market opens will allow you to wait and the harbour and wait for boat to come. By the time market opens, and you are still waiting and seeing for too long, boat will be gone. I will teach how to know whether it is Bull day or Bear day before market opens in my course.

CapitaLand +0.8%; valuations attractive - OCBC |

WRITTEN BY DOW JONES & CO, INC |
MONDAY, 01 NOVEMBER 2010 10:23 |
CapitaLand (C31.SG) last +0.8% at $3.92, in line with broad market advance despite developer Friday posting 43.2% on-year fall in 3Q net profit to $159.6 million, down 66.5% on quarter, revenue at $684.6 million, down 34% on year, off 21.7% on quarter; falls due to lower recognition from group’s residential projects in Singapore, drop in rental income from its shopping malls business after divesting Clarke Quay to CapitaMall Trust, injection of three malls into CapitaMalls Malaysia Trust. OCBC, which keeps Buy call, revised $4.54 fair value, says with “comfortable” net gearing of 0.21 debt-to-equity, how CapLand deploys balance sheet both its “biggest opportunity and its biggest risk.” Adds while uncertainties — economic in West, potential asset bubble in East — remain, “we think CapLand’s valuations are attractive at the $3.89 price level.”

China big positive news and good sentiments on QE2 prospects. Profit-taking may not be so sharp. Further pricing-in of QE2 expected. But if QE2 fails to deliver, better run for your lives. |

UOB target raised to $19.70 by OCBC; Keeps Hold rating |

WRITTEN BY THE EDGE |
MONDAY, 01 NOVEMBER 2010 11:01 |
OCBC keeps United Overseas Bank (U11.SG) at Hold with fair value of $19.70, up from $19.40; says 3Q earnings higher than expected, helped by better non-interest income, lower costs, says Dow Jones.
OCBC cautiously optimistic, notes management remains comfortable with quality of portfolio, NPLs remain stable. “However, margin appears to be under pressure and looks likely to stay so, especially in the current low interest rate environment.” Research house raises FY10 earnings to $2.642 billion from $2.485 billion, ups FY11 earnings to $2.786 billion; expects interest income to remain relatively flat, non-interest income to grow about 9.5% in FY11.
“Overall, we are expecting cost ratio to move up from a projected 39.7% in FY10 to about 40.6% in FY11. Together with lower impairment charges of about $250 million, we expect the bottomline to grow about 5.4%.”
House says will turn buyers at $18.40 or lower. Shares +0.5% at $18.74. |
