Looking forward to what handset manufacturer contract they going to get...Philip Eng says its going to be first of its kind shop  in Myanmar. Maybe Nokia, Samsung, LG  &   Sony after sales services and exclusive retail shop for all telecom all in one. This will be interesting in what franchisee they going to  run for the future in Myanmar.  Annoucement should be soon before shop opens.
Yes thats why mdr is a very good bet.

We have formed a 3-way Joint Venture (JV) with MDR, Singapore and Be Well Ltd, Myanmar. This venture will see us capitalising on the exponential growth forecast in mobile penetration in Myanmar. This venture will start operations at the start of 2013 and will see MDR Myanmar setting up International standard After Sales Service centers for branded phones. In addition, we will provide a management team to our franchisees to successfully run distribution business in Myanmar.

Telecoms
Myanmar's telecommunications market offers potential, but it remains to be seen who will get to tap the upside of this growth market.
Estimates by Nomura early last year put the country's mobile penetration rate at just 2 to 4 per cent.
Foreign companies will get a chance to raise those figures.
BT understands from industry insiders that two foreign telco operator licences are expected to be issued by the end of the year.
Telecom infrastructure specialist Ntegrator International, there since 2002, estimated that a third of its fiscal 2012 turnover came from the country.
Jason Leong, the regional general manager at Ntegrator, believes the company to be well-positioned. " The group has established a strong track record, built up local knowledge and developed close working relationships with the relevant authorities," he said.
Mobile phone distributor mDR has also inked agreements to work with local partners, and expects to play a crucial role in providing after-sales service for mobile devices, said Avinder Singh, who heads its Myanmar operations.
While mDR's current revenue attributable to Myanmar operations is negligible, the company expects this to change in a few years.
Company better start buying shares back.
for counters like MDR, its too big to even using MACD crossover to guage the direction. so far the support at 16 isn't bad.

22 applications for Myanmar mobile license
Dylan Bushell-Embling    |      April 08, 2013

The Myanmar government has received 22 applications from bidders interested in acquiring one of two new mobile licenses in the untapped telecom market.

Myanmar deputy minister of national planning and economic development, Set Aung,
told AFP  that 22 companies or consortia had submitted pre-qualification applications in time for the August 4 deadline.

The government hasn't named all the applicants, but plans to announce the list of companies which have been pre-qualified on Thursday.

But ahead of this announcement, a source close to the process has
provided
TMT Finance  with what is purportedly a list of all the initial applicants. The list includes 18 telecom operators – some of whom have already publicly announced their intention to apply – and several investment company consortia.

Operators on the list include Malaysia's Axiata, Vietnam's Viettel, India's Bharti Airtel, China Telecom, SingTel, France Telecom/Orange and South Africa's MTN.

This won't be the only joint bid. Operator group Digicel has joined forces with investment company Quantum Strategic Partners and a new holding company for their own joint bid.

Separately, Thai state-owned operator CAT Telecom has expressed interest in a project to deploy a subsea cable network linking Myanmar's Dawei with southern Thailand,
Bangkok Post
reported.

But it is not yet clear whether Myanmar intends to award the project to a local company or to a Thai firm.
Vodafone, CHL Unite for Myanmar Bid - Analyst Blog

China Mobile Limited ( CHL ) and Vodafone Group ( VOD ), the world's largest and second largest telecom carriers, announced that they have agreed to form a consortium to bid for mobile license in Myanmar. The telecom giants are aiming to secure one of the two telecom licenses to rollout a nationwide telecom network in Myanmar (Burma).
Investors from all around the world are piling up to grab Myanmar's telecom license as only 10% of the country's 64 million populations has access to mobile communications. Though wireless service in Myanmar was introduced in 2001, high activation cost has kept mobile phones out of reach for most of the people.
However, the government of Myanmar wishes to increase the wireless penetration to 80% by 2016, thus wants to increase the number of telecom carriers from 2 to 4. Myanmar provides a new growth opportunity for Vodafone, which has been struggling in the ongoing economic instability in Europe.
Myanmar government has received expressions of interest (EOI) from 91 entities, which include bids from SingTel, Qatar Telecom and Telenor. Though tough competition awaits Vodafone and China, if successful the mobile operators will get the license to operate a nationwide network for 15 years. The name of the winning bidders will be announced on Jun 27, 2013.
In its recently concluded quarter, Vodafone faced a customer loss of 1.5 million in Europe. The company also underperformed in Africa, Middle East and Asia Pacific, losing 2.5 million customers.
According to the World Bank report, Myanmar's economy is projected to grow 6.2% in 2013, representing a 12.7% annualized growth. We believe that an emerging economy and the highly-literate young population of Myanmar offer great growth opportunity for Vodafone and CHL in South East Asia.
Currently, Vodafone carries a Zacks Rank #4 (Sell) while China Mobile carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold).

NEW YORK: A private investment fund linked to billionaire George Soros is bidding with a consortium for a new telecommunications licence in Myanmar, the consortium leader said Thursday.
Quantum Strategic Partners, whose principal investment adviser is Soros Fund Management, is bidding with consortium leader and telecom provider Digicel Group Limited and YSH Finance, a newly established holding company, Digicel said in a statement.
" The liberalisation of the telecommunications market in Myanmar will serve as an important economic stimulus for the country," Soros said in the statement.
