Mermaid Maritime down 1.1%; contract cessation |
Tags: Mermaid Maritime
WRITTEN BY DOW JONES & CO, INC |
TUESDAY, 09 NOVEMBER 2010 10:25 |
Mermaid Maritime (DU4.SG) down 1.1% at $0.460 after it says U.S.-based charterer of MTR-1 tender rig has ceased accommodation barge contract (supposed to run to at least end-January 2011).
Though very thin volume suggests selling pressure light, likely as contract (won in July) worth just US$3.2 million ($4.12 million), also as cessation no fault of Mermaid, company expects positive outcome from ongoing settlement talks. CIMB, which keeps stock at Outperform, lowers target price to $0.52 from $0.57, erases all contributions from MTR-1, also refines MTR-2 assumptions, shaves FY10-12 earnings estimates by 2%-28%. Notes target still based on 10X CY12 P/E (20% discount to 5-year peer average on poorer earnings visibility). “We continue to see value in its assets and believe the upturn in the subsea market can pick up the slack in drilling. We see catalysts from further asset acquisitions and higher-than-expected subsea utilisation.” Order book tips $0.455 likely floor for day. |
yes we are saved!!!! GOD blessed us!!!! Wat a dramatic time today. I can eat lunch again

capital gains in singapore is non taxable, recurring income is..
your salaries from working are taxable.. your rental income are taxable.... your business profits are taxable...
but stock price difference gains are non-taxable.. dividends are already taxed or reported most of the time, so u don't need to care about it...
selling of houses are non-taxable from the price valuation difference...
note this though.. if u own stocks or any other form of capital gain product through a company, it would be taxable because it would be logged as business profits in your accounts ;).. or at least this is my understanding

Keppel Land (K17.SG) down 3.8% at $4.86, sharply underperforming market with STI down 0.1%; although some investors may be turned off by dilutive impact of $500 million convertible bond issue announced today, analyst at local house says stock likely reacting more to its 5.4% surge yesterday; “(the dilution) is actually not an issue because they’ve done it at $6.72 conversion price, which would be higher than any analyst’s expectation on the target price and definitely higher than the current stock price. So in fact, it doesn’t have a dilutive effect in my view. The stock may be reacting more to the fact that yesterday it had a good run. The convertible bond seems well priced.” Volume shrinks today to 5.7 million shares so far; Monday’s $4.73 intraday low likely to hold. |

The Straits Times Index fell 0.2% to 3,295.25 as of 9:16 a.m., the steepest drop since Oct 27. Almost twice as many stocks declined as advanced in the benchmark equity index of 30 companies.
Shares on the measure trade at an average 16 times estimated earnings, compared with about 17.4 times at the beginning of the year, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. The following shares were among the most active in the market. Stock symbols are in parentheses after the company name.
CapitaLand (CAPL SP), Southeast Asia’s biggest developer, lost 1% to $3.90. The company said it will pay interest on convertible bonds due 2016 on Nov 15.
Keppel Land (KPLD SP), the real-estate unit of Keppel Corp., sank 3.8% to $4.86. The company said it will issue $500 million of unsecured convertible bonds. The convertible bonds will have a term of five years and will be convertible into new Keppel Land ordinary shares, it said.
Sembcorp Industries (SCI SP), the owner of the world’s second-biggest oil-rig maker, rose 0.8% to $4.87. The company said its third-quarter net income rose 65% to $244.1 million.
Wilmar International (WIL SP), the world’s biggest palm-oil trader, climbed 2.1% to $6.87. The company said it increased the size of its syndicated term loan facility to US$1.3 billion ($1.7 billion) from US$1.1 billion to accommodate excess demand. The loan will be used to fund the acquisition of Sucrogen, Australia’s biggest sugar refiner. |

TUESDAY, 09 NOVEMBER 2010 09:51 |
Biosensors International Group today announced several changes to the composition of its board of directors.
Following Hony Capital’s previously announced acquisition of a significant equity stake in the company, John H. Zhao, Chief Executive Officer of Hony Capital, and Bing Yuan, Managing Director of Hony Capital, will join the Biosensors board as non‐executive directors. Meanwhile, former CEO R. Michael Kleine and Dr Lincoln Chee Wang Jin have announced their resignations from the board. In addition to the changes at board level, the company also announced that Jeffrey B. Jump and Dr Jack Wang would serve as Co‐Chief Executive Officers of the company, with Dr Wang focusing on the company’s operations and China strategy while Jump continuing to lead the company’s strategy outside of China. Dr Wang will also join the board as an executive director.
Currently the company’s Chief Operating Officer, Dr Wang has been with Biosensors since 2001, serving in various roles throughout the organisation, as well as serving as President and Chief Executive Officer of JW Medical Systems, the company’s China‐based drug‐eluting stent joint venture.
Prior to launching Hony Capital in 2003, Zhao held numerous CEO and chairman roles at companies such as eGarden Ventures, Infolio Inc., and Vadem. Zhao also serves as Vice President of Hony’s sponsor firm, Legend Holdings, the parent of Lenovo. Yuan joined Hony in 2009 after spending several years as a Managing Director with Morgan Stanley, most recently responsible for the investment bank’s direct investing activities in China, and brings extensive corporate finance and merger and acquisition experience to the company.
“Our organisation continues to evolve. We recognise Mike and Lincoln’s contributions to our board, and wish them well in their future activities. The resources and experience of our new board members, combined with Jack’s increased involvement in the company, will help strengthen our long‐term commitment to the China market. I look forward to supporting Jack and Jeff as they continue the successful collaboration they started many years ago,” says Yoh‐Chie Lu, Biosensors’ Executive Chairman. |
