Wilmar International (WLIL.SI), the world’s biggest listed palm oil plantation firm, posted a worse-than-expected 60% fall in third-quarter net profit, hurt by losses from its oilseeds and grains business.

Nov 10: SIA, Wilmar, Noble, StarHub, ST Engineering, Biosensors

Singapore shares may open lower on Wednesday following a worse-than-expected quarterly profit decline by palm oil giant Wilmar (WLIL.SI) and after Wall Street fell for a second day.

Singapore’s benchmark Straits Times Index <.FTSTI> rose 0.40% on Tuesday to 3,313.61 points. Here are some stocks and factors to watch, say Bloomberg and Thomson Reuters:

Singapore Airlines (SIAL.SI), the world’s second-largest carrier by market value, may be in focus after it reported on Tuesday better-than-expected second-quarter earnings, boosted by a strong recovery in passenger traffic, especially in the premium segment. But the carrier was fined 74.8 million euros after the European Commission ruled that its cargo unit was involved in a price-fixing case involving several airlines. SIA said on Wednesday it is likely to appeal the ruling.

Wilmar International (WLIL.SI), the world’s biggest listed palm oil plantation firm, posted a worse-than-expected 60% fall in third-quarter net profit, hurt by losses from its oilseeds and grains business.

Noble Group (NOBL SP): The Singapore-based commodity supplier backed by China’s sovereign wealth fund said third-quarter profit rose 19% to US$157.2 million ($203.2 million) from a year earlier. The stock was unchanged at $2.13.

Singapore’s second-biggest telecom firm StarHub (STAR.SI) said on Tuesday third-quarter net profit fell 3.7% to $82 million, dragged down by higher operating expenses.

Singapore Technologies Engineering (STEG.SI), the city-state’s main defence contractor, posted on Tuesday an 8.3% rise in third-quarter net profit, helped by higher earnings from its electronics and marine units.

Singapore medical technology firm Biosensors (BIOS.SI) said its chief financial officer Kevin R. Sayer has resigned and will step down effective Nov 30. Biosensors also said it is closing its US operations.

Shares of Singapore-listed Golden Agri-Resources (GAGR.SI) rose 5.4% to $0.685 on Monday, boosted by news palm oil refiner Mewah International has set an indicative price for its IPO.

Over 28.9 million shares had changed hands by 0252 GMT.

Mewah, which filed an IPO prospectus on Friday, is looking to raise as much as $449 million  in its Singapore initial public offering.

The company plans to sell up to 289.5 million shares to investors, including a 37.8 million primary share greenshoe option, at $1.25 to $1.55 each, according to IFR Asia.

“The market has generally been pretty bullish about the prospects for palm oil firms. Moreover, if Mewah’s IPO does well, this could be an additional boost to Golden Agri’s shares,” said a local trader.

Blaze u are stll young and has plenty of time to learn....

Firstly u got to learn how to see chart and candles....there is alot of indicator to help u determind what will be the next movement...U will have more confident in ur trade. Actually that time i have also bought MIT too at 1.16 and sold at 1.17 with oni a cent profit... If i did not sell it 1.17, i will at least sell near market close at 1.15 as its candle showed a shooting star (Long tail) not a good sign....

Secondly set aside ur money with 2 portion loh...1 in longer term and 1 in short term loh.... like ur Genting HK if is a good stuff...don't ditch it...keep long term....

Like BT too, i think he does keep Genting SP for long term... Best is u have both technical and fundamental analysis.....

analysis is useless without the guts and confidence to act upon it.

is not i timid, but in a net loss position, quite hard to take risk personally.

esp when the last risk i took MIT, set me back a lot.

if i trading with profits, i will be in a better situation to take more risk.

i guess that is human mentality, own money will not want to take much risk.

but profits, easy come easy go. lol
