Olam International (O32.SG) fiscal 1Q net profit likely +34.2% on-year at $25.5 million, revenue likely +5.8% on-year at $2 billion, according to Dow Jones poll of three analysts.

July-September usually seasonally weaker quarter for Olam as harvest of major crops starts in October. Still, earnings likely boosted on organic growth, contribution from previous acquisitions.

More keenly eyed: Market awaits outcome of Olam’s discussions with Louis Dreyfus Commodities for possible merger. “We turn cautious on Olam after a strong run on market interest in the possibility of a merger with Louis Dreyfus,” Nomura says in report, terming the earnings as a likely “non-event.”

Olam to report 1Q earnings on Nov. 11 after market close.

Singapore’s Straits Times Index slipped 0.2% to 3,306.40 as of 9.07 a.m. local time. About the same number of stocks rose as fell in the benchmark equity index of 30 companies.

Shares on the measure trade at an average 16.1 times estimated earnings, compared with about 17.4 times at the beginning of the year, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. The following shares were among the most active in the market.

Noble Group (NOBL SP) gained 1.4% to $2.16. The Singapore-based commodity supplier backed by China’s sovereign wealth fund said third-quarter profit rose 19% to $157.2 million from a year earlier.

StarHub (STH SP) declined 0.4% to $2.79. Singapore’s second-largest phone company said third-quarter net profit fell 3.7% to $82 million from a year earlier.

Wilmar International (WIL SP) slumped 4.1% to $6.60. The world’s biggest palm-oil trader said third-quarter net income was US$259.5 million ($334.4 million), compared with US$653 million a year earlier. Analysts had expected a profit of US$448.7 million, according to three estimates compiled by Bloomberg.

Hooray, STI is recovering now.

Thanks BT for your hint on OLAM.

I took a look at the chart, looks good as it broke its resistance at 3.34 yesterday and closed at 3.38. What a good opportunity to buy at 3.33 today. Expect OLAM for follow other commodities stock to announce good result tomorrow.

Cheers

BT / G,  How does this stop gap work? You both got different stops.  Is it based on Intraday High? Previous day Close?  I dont have auto stop, so need to prepare for manual stop.  Thanks.

My current GenSp holdings is actually still quite a lot.

Just reducing risks.

GenSp still a good stock to hold over long term.

Correction in US market too - market consolidated after a streak of bull run + fear for QE2 impact prior to G20 meeting tonight =)

Funny for me - it was up because of good QE2 and down also due to fear of QE2's impact.

I guess it has some impact on Singapore Market as usual. However, I believe it will be better.

Double up my stake in GSP as well. Playing out for result tomorrow. I dont believe it to be bad, considering how well the gambling industry is doing at the moment.

Just my 2 cent

There are many styles, this is the one that I choose because it works for me.

Post positive earnings, the stock will have a upward spike. Usually this is a good time to sell.

Put the profits back into a stock that is about to announce earnings.

After that stock announces positive results, spike up, sell again. And put into another stock.

After earnings season is over, the trading strategy will change to a more sustainable style.

Noble has a 19% improvement on profits. It is ok. Pending analyst upgrade should go up again.

My style is stock rotation post earnings announcements.

Putting some back into GAR and Olam.

Only 20% transfer elsewhere.

80% of my former GenSp stocks still with me  Smiley

It could be 2 things that are happening :

1) BBs trying to push GenSp price down and buy cheap.

2) GenSp results not as great as expected.

I would like to cut down my risks a little bit since its a 50/50 chance.

I closed my noble at 2.17 too.

Last piece of anticipated news out, so closed it while it s still hot.

The stock is good, biz is good,  but when the px is high, we sell and get ready to buy when it is cheap. This is a painful lesson I learnt in the past.

Cheers

fools_gold      ( Date: 10-Nov-2010 09:32) Posted:

Not me and I grabbed another 100 lots at 2.28 which is early since it dropped at 2.26.

The worst thing is, I panicked at sold all my Noble holdings at 2.17
