NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- As world leaders prepare to debate international trade imbalances this week, China announced Wednesday that its trade surplus surged last month.
China's trade balance, which measures the difference between the nation's imports and exports, increased to a staggering $27.2 billion in October, a 61% increase over the $16.9 billion surplus in September.
Imports rose 25.3% to $108.8 billion, while exports rose 22.9% to $136 billion for the month.
After China's surplus narrowed slightly the month before, the uptick in October could heighten international trade tensions as the G-20 nations prepare to meet this week.
"China's delegation to this week's G-20 summit will have a hard job convincing others that China's government is doing all it can to stimulate domestic spending," Mark Williams, senior China economist at Capital Economics wrote in a note to clients.
China's trade surplus with the U.S. is among the most glaring, according to Williams. In the last month, China shipped $25 billion in goods to the U.S. and bought only $7 billion in return, he said.
The United States has accused China of keeping its currency, the yuan, undervalued by buying up large reserves of foreign currencies. A cheaper yuan gives an advantage to Chinese exporters by allowing them to undercut foreign competitors.
In September, the House passed a bill that would allow for tariffs on Chinese goods. Before the bill becomes law, it must pass the Senate and be signed by President Obama.
Since then, Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner has been urging G-20 nations to take strong action against currency manipulation, and change economic policies in countries running large trade surpluses to reduce dependence on exports.
At a meeting of finance ministers of the G-20 group of nations in Gyeongju, South Korea, last month, the ministers pledged not to engage in currency wars, but stopped short of an outright ban on currency manipulation.
In the G-20 finance ministers' closing statement, they said they would "move towards more market determined exchange rate systems that reflect underlying economic fundamentals and refrain from competitive devaluation of currencies."
EOD not as accurate as active monitor. cause if on a shooting star day, EOD would make me lose the chance to bail.
after this week ba, then i will stop monitoring so heavily. since u guys all will be gone, market will be quieter, i will also focus on my work more.
prior to monitoring the market, i will study during free time in office.

If thats the case just do EOD trading.
No need to actively monitor
must constantly remind myself i still losing money, must not take huge risks or else my position will nv change. esp after the MIT incident, i must constantly remind myself even more.
to be frank, my manager has caught me monitoring the stock market quite a few times liao.
i also a little worried that i might get warning or fired. lol
i also feel like my work affected liao. not a lot though, i just doing my work slower due to having to monitor market.good thing is i still manage to finish my work although slower than before but still on time.
and i think my manager also very nice to me, cause even after catching me so many times, she still nv say anything as long as i get the work done.
not like other companies, finish work must act busy.

Noble advances in Singapore after earnings, upgrades |

WRITTEN BY BLOOMBERG |

Noble Group, the Singapore- based commodities supplier backed by China’s sovereign wealth fund, rose to the highest in almost eight months in Singapore trading after it posted a 19% rise in third-quarter profit and brokers upgraded the stock. The shares rose as much as 3.3% on the local stock exchange to $2.20, the highest since March 19. They closed up 1.9% at $2.17. The key index fell 0.7%. Noble was raised to “outperform” from “neutral” at CIMB-GK Securities with a 12-month target price of $2.45 per share. Credit Suisse also raised its rating to “outperform” from “neutral” and increased its share-price estimate to $2.55 from $1.65. Phillip Securities raised its rating to “buy” from “hold” and set its target price at S$2.33. Net income rose to US$157.2 million ($202.3 million), or 2.53 cents a share, in the three months ended Sept. 30, from US$132.1 million, or 2.47 cents, a year earlier, yesterday in a statement to the local stock exchange. Sales for the quarter rose 79% to US$14.94 billion, lifting the nine-month revenue by 82% to a record US$39.26 billion, it said. Noble, which received almost three quarters of its gross profit last year from energy and agriculture operations, is benefitting as crude oil, corn and soybean prices hover at two-year highs, while cotton is at a record. “Higher revenue levels reflected the impact of a more stable economic environment which returned commodity price levels to more normalized levels,” the company said yesterday. Noble wants to grow its grain and oilseeds businesses to take advantage of rising global food demand, Chief Executive Officer Ricardo Leiman said Sept. 28. It aims to double annual profit to US$1 billion in three years as consumption of sugar, grains, coal and other resources increases in Asia. |
i went in cause my analysis is in line with BT's. so i decided to have a little confidence in myself and my analysis.
but i went in really very little. 5 lots only haha. wanted to double at .75 but decided to see tmr morning opening how 1st.
cause every dollar counts when you are in a net loss position.
if GAR drops i might probably double or triple up for the long term.
also if my guess is correct, wilmar is expanding, which might increase their sales but in 5 years time or so if they just started a new plantation.
