if they got so much cash in their banks, then why do they even bother to borrow so much money in the form of CBs?

too many of these s chips have a lot of cash in the for of cash and its equivalents as stated in the balance sheet... well, we can see who has it and has not

US$170 million is nothing. No bank will refuse to lend anyone US$170 million for a few weeks if they can prove that their PRC account has US$300 million cash.

How about the Bank has no liquidity?

If they really had 2 billion RMB in their PRC accounts, they would have done then following -

a) Prepare to remit US$170 million from their PRC account 6 months prior the early maturity date to prepare for any potential early redemption from bond-holders. This will ensure that bond-holders will get repaid promptly.

b) If they had failed to do (a), they could have borrowed US$170 million from any offshore banks using their offshore holding companies while placing their RMB 2 billion bank account as collateral. This will ensure that bond-holders will get paid promptly and the banks will be repaid when SAFE allows the remittance to take place. No banks will refuse this since it is a relatively risk-free business proposition.

I think it is suicidal to short a highly illiquid stock IMO. Not easy to cover back.

Anyway, why do you consider CM Pacific over-valued? I think its true value should be around $0.90 based on earnings and dividends.

I don't think any SOE-related stock will be affected by fraud, Such activities will bring bad light to the PRC Govt. Instead focus on cash-rich companies, which refuse to pay out at least 25% of their earnings as dividends and their CEO/Chairman is the largest shareholder. Such companies generally have poor corporate governance.

They won't lift the halt until they repay the bond-holders haha. It is too late to short. You should have done it 2 weeks ago haha

Auditors didn't resign. It was the Chairman of the Audit committee who resigned. Auditors are not liable for fraud committed by the company. They do not search through all of the companies accounts etc. Auditors only give an opinion during the report - they never give a definite statement to protect themselves from legal actions.

The auditors did not resign. Only the director in the Audit Committee resign. Auditors will not be held responsible for any fraud but a director can.

Before any new auditor is appointed he needs to seek written confirmation from outgoing one - that there is no professional reason not to accept this audit. Should there be known fraud it will be revealed then. If outgoing auditor keep mumb his CPA licence will be in jeopardy .

Are you sure the auditor said that?  It is a very serious statement and if it turned out to be untrue, the auditor will be liable to legal actions.  Normally, auditor would just resign and give certain general excuses

In a recent ST article, reasons auditors resign is because there is fraud and they do not want to do cover the fraud up

those who stay and do company fraud will be jailed, those who resign will not

i think this company is dead meat
