Share buyback benefits shareholders as it strengthens the earnings per share (EPS) and return on equity (ROE) for shareholders. Also, dividends per share may be improved (subject to the amount of net income from the company going forward and assuming company maintains same amount of dividends or more paid to all it's shareholders) since same amount or more of dividends is distributed among lesser common shares held by shareholders (after shares have been bought back).
The drawback is that the cash and cash equivalents of the company will decrease after share buybacks. Hopefully, Tat Hong will consider carefully and do share buybacks only at opportunate moments going forward so as to manage it's cashflow carefully.
Now, Tat Hong's share price has already risen from it's low during March. March was an excellent time to buy Tat Hong's shares at around $0.40 plus range. That price range was a significantly good undervalue price to get their shares. Now, it's share price has already risen by 100% from March low. However, given Tat Hong's good fundamentals going forward (with their expansion plans into China and Australia, and strategy to grow their rental business at fast pace which is their current revenue booster), there maybe still incentive for getting their shares at current price ($0.90 plus range) and investing in their business for the long run (more than 5 years).
<This is just my 2 cents worth on the prospects of Tat Hong Holdings going forward. Please dyodd and don't follow my sharing blindly.>
I just got the annual report fot Tat Hong. I thot the performance was good given the current economic condition. They are proposing share buyback too.
I bought high some time back at > $2.50. Can anyone share what is a good price to enter to average out?
Tat Hong has the nature of a toll-bridge business (a consumer monopoly type business). Toll-bridge businesses are businesses that other businesses must depend on their products or services. The tower cranes, crawler cranes and other heavy machinery parts sold by or rented out by Tat Hong are products needed for a range of other businesses such as infrastructure, construction and offshore oil and gas industries. The temporary dip in Tat Hong's sales revenue is expected as it's clients turn cautious about drawing large loans to make large purchases of cranes from Tat Hong. To mitigate this lackluster sales, Tat Hong has focused on growing it's rental of cranes business instead of sales. It has started to see some results evidenced in it's significant growth in it's overall rental revenue from latest quarterly report. Thus, management is able to change strategy to nagivate through current financial downturn. Much remains to be seen on how Tat Hong will continue to navigate through current troubled waters.
Tat Hong is also expanding it's business into China. If all goes well, one will expect a higher revenue for Tat Hong in future due to China's continued expansion of it's infrastructure and construction sectors.
overtime the market will value the stock at its "correct" price..
good example is tat hong.. :) cheers!

strengthening of A$ currently is good news for Tat Hong
bco of its substantial investment in Australia and also
govt. huge stimulus packages.
Please feel free to visit and leave comments, thanks !

Tat Hong's H1 2009 revenue and net profit have met 49 per cent and 47 per cent of our previous estimates, respectively. However, we are mindful that H2 2009 will pose greater challenges than H1 2009 in light of the pronounced credit crisis. As such, we have lowered our FY2009 earnings forecast by 16 per cent and our FY2010 estimate by 46 per cent. In addition, we ease our valuation parameter to six times (from eight times), bringing our fair-value estimate to $0.91. Trading at 3.3 times FY2009 PE coupled with a dividend yield of 12 per cent, the stock continues to offer sound value proposition. As such, our 'buy' rating remains.
BUY

Whoa... did you guys see the sudden movement in the past few days?
Beware of this counter because of its low volumes. Price movements can be highly volatile and unpredictable because of its illiquid state.
