Latest news from NY Times. Thailand’s King Bhumibol Adulyadej Sees His Influence Fading
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/16/world/asia/16king.html?partner=rss&emc=rss
Battle over Thailand’s future is raging, but the one man who has been able to resolve such intractable conflicts in the past has been notably silent: King Bhumibol Adulyadej, long a unifying father figure for his nation........ “It’s much bigger than the issue of succession,” said Charles Keyes, an expert on Thailand at the University of Washington in Seattle. “It’s a collapse of the political consensus that the monarchy has helped maintain.”
As his country suffers through its worst political crisis in decades, the king has disappointed many Thais by saying nothing that might calm the turmoil, as he did in 1973 and 1992 when with a few quiet words he halted eruptions of political bloodletting.
teeth53 thot - Even if the king is willing, his is ailing.
teeth53 thot - Bangkok is teaching the red what is terrorism and terrorist by driving them into under ground. they are expediting teaching to the red. Thai South had their lesson, will the North/North East have one as well ?. Even if the king is willing, his is ailing.

Soldiers can shoot if protesters come within 36 metres of army lines, said army spokesman Sansern Kaewkamnerd, adding more soldiers were needed to establish control.
The government insists that some of the protesters are armed with grenades and guns and showed footage on national television in an attempt to bolster their case.
Many protest leaders now face terrorism charges that carry a maximum penalty of death, raising the stakes in a two-month crisis that has paralysed parts of Bangkok.

Once the king is............more warlord can appear fighting for more power..

Thailand's government says a crackdown on Red Shirt protesters will continue despite plea for U.N-mediated talks by red. (See - Yellow will never give up their power, but counted 30 bodys - dead)
Government spokesman Pa-na-ti says there is no reason for the army to withdraw since "authorities are not using weapons to crack down on wounded civilians."
The government maintains it is only targeting armed "terrorists" among the Red Shirts. those fighting leaves 30 dead, 232 injured
Battle may be fought and won on the fields, this war for winning the hearts and mind has long been dead, for the wounded Thais pple's pride had been broken up and will take another one to two generation to amend back. Yellow will never be giving up their power.
Bless us for we had Dr Goh Keng Swee (RIP liao). last Friday May 14, 2010.

Thousands of protesters were massing in a separate area in working-class Klong Toey area near the fighting on Rama IV. A new protest site would vastly complicate attempts to end the protests and resolve a crisis that has battered the economy.
"Unless the government cracks down and does so decisively, and that's a big if, we are going to be seeing minor rioting and guerrilla warfare, possibly spreading out to other areas of Bangkok," said the diplomat who declined to be identified.
teeth53 thot - The Thai ruling had oredi done great damaging to it Thais pple's trust. Thus with red highly mobile team. Fire can be very easy-but cannot be contain, esp to other part of central Bangkok. The army can pick and kill one by one. They cannot win this war, yellow can oni win battle, after battle, after battle and not this war.
"I don't see how cutting supplies could be effective," said Karn Yuenyong, director of independent think-tank Siam Intelligence Unit. "It's not an easy task and may not be worth it, especially if protesters can bypass it.",
By the look of things, the situation there should be returning to normalcy soon...
With the leaders on the red side considerably weakened,
and the trouble area well contained by the Army,
and the Thaksin family having left the country...
Perhaps, it's time for stocks to "Cheong Aaarhhh!!!" next week?...
But Europe's now the sore thumb...

The king being the most revered figure should now play his card and play it fast to prevent further loss of innocent lives.
They lack wise advice from advisers. To solve long standing issues, one day not enough. To break a deadlock, no lives needed be sacrificed.
To give way is not a shame of lack of integrity. Both sides must understand the principle of pride and the demands of each. I think the process to return to normalcy is going to be a long drawn out affair if no compromise is made by one side to another with a reciprocal compromise. AND MORE LIVES WILL BE LOST IN THE PROCESS.

"With gun battles and grenades going off, investors will look elsewhere," said Danny Richards, an analyst at the Economist Intelligence Unit.
"I don't think many see the end of this protest as the end of the crisis. When there's an election, either side will reject the legitimacy of the other and
we'll be back to square one."
teeth53 thot - Red is not a spend force, If even it win in any election, d old rule will stay and (Thais golden era is almost over)
eject them outside the rule if it take many round to cast them aside, since the ruling is not willing, thus it default line is further divided.

Soldiers used a loudspeaker to send a message to the Red Shirts:
"We are the people's army. We are just doing our duty for the nation. Brothers and sisters, let's talk together."
teeth53 thot - Thai golden era is almost over, it default line is further divide into a very troublesome precursor to err...deadly problem
Thailand can been seen as making history in itself by been divided North/North East, the Central and South and 4th is those fence sitting and

Stories why Thais is leading to what had to be happening in Bangkok today.
Another word - PAD claims and the opposition party that there was an excessive use of force is nothing short of ludicrous. How can we allow Thailand to be ruled by these gangsters who can go around closing whatever areas they want?, when the PAD first took over government house then perhaps we wouldnt be in the mayhem we are in today. PAD obviously wants for there to be blood and conflict. Well now there is, and they've obviously asked for it. The opposition party, being the opportunists that they are, should consider themselves in the shoes of the government. These anarchists must be brought to justice, law-abiding Thai will not put up with the PAD who will take the welfare of this country hostage for their own political agenda.
Rogue general wounded, 1 killed in Bangkok fighting
The emergency center said Gen Khattiya was shot in the head and admitted to a hospital's intensive care unit.

The shootings sparked half a dozen confrontations between rock-throwing protesters and armed security forces on the outskirts of the 3 sq-km commercial district where red-shirted protesters have barricaded themselves since April 3.
One protester was shot in the eye and died after a group of red shirts confronted soldiers armed with assault rifles next to a park in the Silom business district, witnesses said. Some protesters hurled rocks and troops fired in return.
