In the most ideal scenario, when all companies have matured and their stock prices reflect their intrinsic or fundamental value, one invest in the company to get a hold of dividends. When the investor later sells his shares, he get back his capital plus dividends and the next buyer would pay a reasonable price for the shares and also to get dividends. Ideally, everyone would share the wealth and prosper together. But too bad, this world is not ideal, and only to be made worse by greedy and irrational humans. You probably get mixed up with punters and investors. Investors may lose in the short run, but win big big in the long run. Cheers!!

And last, dont hold till cow come home, have a stop lose. otherwise you will lose big time and end up talking wisdom to self comfort yourself like some guy do here.
