Beware the debt ceiling vote

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- The debt ceiling talks, for weeks now, have been going on behind closed doors. The negotiations have been conducted by a tiny group of legislative leaders and President Obama's top aides.

All the while, the countdown to Aug. 2, when the government will no longer be able to pay all its bills, has marched closer.

Any proposal will still have to be put into legislative language, scored by the Congressional Budget Office and vetted by rank-and-file lawmakers whose votes will decide its fate.

Even after the principal negotiators announce a deal, the rest of Congress will have to be convinced to go along.

The closer to D-Day Washington gets, the messier it will be.

No need to worry now, maybe later.  The US politicians are playing politics but they know there is a limit to their nonsence.

" It doesn't have to be sharp," he said. " A 20% drop would be astounding, but a modest drop would not be surprising."

No deal, more volatility: Investors could be in for a rude awakening on New Year's day. Despite the political and economic stakes, it's not a given that Congress will act.

(CNNMoney)It won't happen without a fight -- potentially a really ugly fight. And it may even push the country over the fiscal cliff for a time.

President Obama has pushed to raise tax rates on the rich, and House Speaker John Boehner has pushed to keep them low. If the fiscal cliff is to be averted, they may need to compromise.

But now that President Obama has been re-elected, and Democrats have retained control of the Senate, there's a far greater chance that high-income households will soon face higher tax bills.

Both President Obama n the Republican control house is working overtime...On fiscal cliff  to avoid U.S. $600 billion tax hike.

America's Debt Challenge and the fiscal cliff provisions are wide-ranging.

The middle class, for instance, could see the 2% payroll tax holiday disappear. So someone making $50,000 might get about $83 less a month in their paychecks.

The alternative minimum tax, which could strike roughly 28 million people, many of whom are in the middle-class.

http://globalvoicesonline.org/2012/06/04/greece-stay-in-europe-movement/

A new  movement,  “Stay in Europe” [el], aims to gather all Greek citizens who want Greece to remain in the Eurozone and European Union in  a big demonstration in front of Syntagma Square in Athens one week before elections (June, 10, 2012). The movement has started an online campaign calling all people, regardless of their  political  views, to send a strong message to the future  government.

http://translate.google.com/#

Three generations of Greeks fought and achieved the independence of Greece, the democratization of society and the equal participation in the European Union.

This affects not only brutally income, but also endangers the European position in the country. The prospect of a Greek outside Europe will not only negate the sacrifices of previous generations, but mortgaged the future and the next.

As active citizens, regardless of party and political positions, from our social and economic position, and any difference between us, unites and affirms its June 10 at 7pm in Constitution Square. We send a simple but firm message:

The presence of Greece in the European Union and the Euro is non negotiable.
