CHANGCHUN - Confusion prevailed in Jilin city on Wednesday when the water supply was unexpectedly cut off, triggering a run on bottled water and widespread rumors about the drinking water being contaminated amid the accidental release of 1,000 containers of explosive chemicals into a local river.

The water supply of Jilin, the second-largest city of Northeast China's Jilin province with a population of 4.3 million, was cut off at about 1 pm, while authorities have yet to indicate when it will resume.

Meanwhile, more than 1,000 barrels containing explosive chemicals washed into the Songhua River, the main source of drinking water for the city, at around 10 am in Yongji county as a result of a flood brought on by rain, local officials said.

In total, the containers from the Xinyaqiang chemical plant contained more than 160,000 kg of explosive chemical fluid, officials added

Looks like an excellent project. I wonder will local companies dealing in food-related products will be joining in.

 

Back to super food zone - This long term huge project is definately to ensure long term food supply not to supply cheaper foods, but offer afford finishing goods that benefit Singapore

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Stocks ended higher Friday, finding momentum at the end of a very choppy session in which concerns about global growth vied with investor willingness to scoop up shares beaten down in the recent sell-off.

But selling earlier in the week left the major gauges lower for the week, with the Dow and S&P 500 both down around 4% and the Nasdaq off around 5%.

Stocks fell again in the morning Friday, dropping below the lows from the early-May "flash crash" -- in which erroneous computer trading sent the Dow down by almost 1,000 points, before it recovered near the close.

Hitting those lows again Friday seemed to bring in some new buyers, with market pros using those earlier lows as a good point to tiptoe back into the market. But the advance Friday was never especially robust, with stocks seesawing through the session.

"We went to the flash crash intraday lows and bounced back, which is good, but I think the mindset has changed and people are going to be selling into rallies

 

I realized that after yesterday's DOW surge, many media reporters become Bullish.

Singapore and China sign multiple agreement to co-develop food zone in China The size is two time it size of Singapore and Temasek unit is studying feasibility of jointly developing food zone and will gain major access to a new source for meat, friut and vegetables in North-Easten China. At about 1,450 sq km will produce everything from pork, beef and dairy products to rice, strawberries and ginseng. A multibillion dollars project will take about nine months to complete for, to collaborate between Jilin City municipal govt and Temasek holdings unit - Singbridge, which will take 15 years to built, to develop in three pharses, the Chinese will expect to sink in a total of 110 billion yuan or $S22.7 billion.  Singapore Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority (AVA) will contribute its expertise to ensure that this becomes a Disease Free Zone (CFZ), free of diseases like food and mouth disease. Singapore Food Industries (SFI) for EG has already started inked two agreements to setup and develop an integrated pig farm in the food zone over six years with a annual production of 100,000 pigs and is expected to ramped up to one million pigs per year. Another Temasek unit, Fullerton Financial Holdings will also chip in to setup villages banks in Jilin to serve small and medium-sized enterprises, consumers and farmers enterprises Food zone will also rely on a largerhinterland area includes Liaoning, Heilongjiang and Inner Mongolia, also a Dutch bank - Robo bank study, performed and found such zone is conducive, a part having fertile soil, the aera has plenty of access to water resources and boosts long sunlight hours.
