Daiwa cuts Singapore Airlines (C6L.SG) to Hold from Outperform on expectations of higher fuel prices in FY12-FY13, and sluggish 4Q FY11 growth.

The house cuts its six-month target to $15 from $17, after raising its FY12 jet fuel price assumptions by 17% to US$115/bbl($147/bbl), and FY13 forecast by 10% to US$130/bbl.

“We believe yield growth is likely to be supported by the increase in fuel surcharges due to rising jet-fuel prices. However, we do not expect any increase in the yield to mitigate fully the negative impact of rising fuel costs on SIA's bottom line,” the house says.

Daiwa says lackluster passenger and cargo traffic growth in 4Q FY11 may also weigh the stock, and sees few positive share-price catalysts presently. Singapore Airlines is down 0.8% at $14.22.

SIA price fixing plea accepted by judge
WRITTEN BY BLOOMBERG

WEDNESDAY, 09 FEBRUARY 2011 08:15

Singapore Airlines Cargo will pay a US$48 million criminal fine as part of a price-fixing plea that was accepted by a US judge.

The unit of Singapore Airlines, the world’s second-largest airline by market value, pleaded guilty today in federal court in Washington to conspiring with air cargo companies to fix rates on international shipments. US District Judge John Bates accepted the plea and proposed penalty, which was announced by the Justice Department in November.

“This antitrust offense involves significant misconduct in the marketplace,” said Bates, adding that the fine being imposed is “at the top of the guideline range.”

The plea is part of the department’s investigation into the air-cargo industry. Including Singapore Airlines, 21 airlines and 19 executives have been charged and more than US$1.7 billion in fines have been levied, according to the Justice Department.

Other airlines that have agreed to pay fines in the investigation are Polar Air Cargo LLC, a unit of Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings Inc. Air France-KLM Group Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd. SAS Cargo Group A/S and Martinair Holland NV, a unit of KLM.

Singapore Airlines Cargo pleaded guilty to a single felony count of conspiracy to restrain trade. The department filed the one-count felony charge in federal court on Nov 30 accusing the company of helping fix prices between 2002 and 2006. Bates said the value of affected commerce was US$85.6 million.

After 5-days Black crow, SIA is in steep bearish channel with relatively high volume.

MACD and RSI are also showing the same sign.

Current price is well below the MA.

Immediate support at about $14.24 and Resistance at   $15.

HOWEVER, with RSI in oversold region, watchout for Trend reversal.

Agree?

Phillip upgrades SIA to ‘buy’ from ‘hold’

WRITTEN BY BLOOMBERG
TUESDAY, 01 FEBRUARY 2011 08:59

Singapore Airlines reported lower third quarter net profit, hit by provisions for fines by the European Commission and South Korean regulator, as well as a settlement with US authorities on cargo price-fixing charges.

Phillip said that if the non-recurring cargo fines of $199.1 million were removed, SIA’s profit after tax and minority interests actually increased 21% year-on-year to $487.4 million.

The brokerage said that fuel costs were within its expectations as the impact of hedging was minimal for the quarter, adding that it expected a higher passenger yield resulting from the announced fare increases.

SIA said it will increase its fuel surcharge for tickets issued on or after Jan 27 as a result of the recent escalation in jet fuel price.

Singapore Airlines  will increase its fuel surcharge for tickets issued on or after Jan 27 as a result of the recent escalation in jet fuel price, it said on Friday.

“The adjustments will offer only partial relief from the higher operating costs rising from increases in the price of jet fuel,” said Singapore Airlines in a statement.

The increases will range from US$3($3.86)-US$27($34.7), it said, taking the fuel surcharges to between US$28 to US$232, depending on distance and the class of travel.

CS recommends BUY with Target Price of $18.50

● SIA’s December passenger demand was flat YoY, but up 8%

MoM to a one-year high due to seasonal strength. This already

takes into account traffic disruptions due to poor weather in US

and Europe. Cargo demand grew 5% YoY but fell 4% MoM. EVA

in Taiwan also reported declining cargo volume, but Cathay

Pacific’s demand held up.

● SIA’s December passenger load factor rebounded to a high 81%.

We believe this should translate into pricing power. According to

CX’s management, the quality of passenger revenue in all classes

of travel was higher, implying improving yields. This is echoed by

EVA’s passenger yield in the same month, which rose 6% MoM to

a record high.

● SIA’s forward P/B of 1.3x is at its historical average, its forward

EV/EBITDAR of 4.3x is close to an all-time low, attractive considering

the high projected RoAEs. Our target price of S$18.50 implies 1.5x

forward P/B, the mid-point of the historical average and one standard

deviation above.

P/S - My personal view :  SIA has just taken its first step.  (More to come??
Anyone's guess) .     This is not only beneficial to airlines, but, also that of Gambing indsutries in Singapore.

Vallar's Indonesian Coal Gamble

Vallar's Indonesian Coal Gamble .Article Comments more in Heard on the Street ».EmailPrintSave This ↓ More. .Twitter Orkut + More close StumbleUponYahoo! BuzzMySpacedel.icio.usFacebookRedditLinkedInFarkViadeo Text By MATTHEW CURTIN

Nat Rothschild has clearly inherited his family's deal-making skills. Just four months after listing his £707 million ($1.13 billion) Vallar cash shell on the London Stock Exchange, he has engineered a complex $3 billion reverse takeover with Indonesia's Bakrie family giving Vallar exposure to attractive Indonesian coal assets without paying a premium. Vallar will become the world's biggest exporter of steam coal and a likely FTSE-100 stock. True, Vallar investors will have to share management control with the Bakrie family, who will take 43% of Vallar in return for the sale of 51% of PT Bumi Resources, Indonesia's largest coal producer. Vallar will be renamed Bumi PLC. At the same time, Vallar is paying $1.6 billion in cash and shares to buy 75% of PT Berau Coal Energy, a smaller coal producer with gold and base-metal assets. Berau's controlling shareholder, Rosan Roeslani, will get 25% of Vallar, leaving existing shareholders with 32%. But shared control is a price worth paying for what is likely to prove a smart deal. Coal is the key energy source in Asia, where energy demand is soaring. China's thermal coal imports are up about 50% this year. India is adding new capacity equivalent to South Africa's current installed capacity every year. Thermal coal prices are at their highest level in two years. PT Bumi's and Berau's low-cost mines, with as much as 90 years of reserves, could double output to 140 million metric tons a year by 2014. What's more, Vallar is paying a blended multiple of 4.1 times 2011 earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization, according to J.P. Morgan estimates, a large discount to the Indonesian coal sector, which trades at between seven and eight times 2011 Ebitda. That largely reflects PT Bumi's high debt. But as part of a London-listed entity, PT Bumi should have better access to capital markets, enabling it to lower its interest costs from 12% closer to the emerging-market resource company average of 6%-8%. That should ensure plenty of upside for everyone.

SIA's Q4 net profit up nearly seven-fold

http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/singaporebusinessnews/view/1058212/1/.html

The airline said the sustainability of the improvements "depends on developments in the world economy and business and consumer confidence."

Fuel costs will continue to be a major expense for the airline, SIA said, noting that the price of jet fuel hovered at around 90 US dollars a barrel recently.

"It is difficult how the price will behave over the course of the year," SIA said.

Let me continue..

Fuel cost is going to be cheap until year 2011 due to European debt crisis and oil stockpiling in US. So, let's fly with SQ, they just bought some new planes to increase their existing capacity and of course, Revenue! Smiley
