Singapore Market Strategy - Outlook for 2011 by Credit Suisse

Given that Singapore’s economic prospects will continue to be

highly dependent on global economic growth, CS’s global and

regional economists’ and strategists’ relatively bullish views augur

well for Singapore. On a global basis, we expect GDP to expand

by 4.7% in 2010E and 4.4% in 2011E. Following the slowdown in

2H 2010, the pace of expansion is expected to pick up again early

next year. Key themes in 2011 include more aggressive capital

management and another strong year for tourism.

● Driven mainly by the projected earnings growth, we expect

Singapore Inc.’s ROE to continue expanding from 11.5% in 2010

to 12.7% in 2011 and 13.1% in 2012. Our P/B versus ROE

analysis (applying our 2012 ROE projection) implies an end-

2011E MSCI Singapore Index target of 438, representing 19%

upside from here. The ROE improvement over the next two years

could surprise on the upside as a result of more aggressive capital

management by companies here.

● We are OVERWEIGHT capital goods, property and transport and

UNDERWEIGHT telecom and consumer discretionary. We are

MARKET WEIGHT banks, consumer staples and financials.

Our top picks are SMM, NOL, CDL, Keppel and Olam. We are

also positive on Wilmar and SIA. Within the mid-cap names, we

like CDLHT, Wing Tai, and M1. On the other hand, our key sell

ideas are SMRT, STE and Tiger Airways.
