The market is the market... it a hallmark of there world... thus a 'free-for-all' beast exists.

No point scolding the market' or the world's 'wrong' doings...
And saying to ban shorting is to be 'dictatorial' and controlling...

Why not just treat the beast as a beast, and neither love it or hate it (or scold it)...

Why not make your own world beautiful by accepting the damn beast as your friend?
And learn to tackle it to your advantage?... Smiley

read today's "Money" section of the new "Cai Jin" segment...a volatile market that many traders have not seen before...one of the more difficult markets to predict...these analysts many were all caught off guard...

anyway, this market...one moment up and the next down...vice versa...really very much clueless how it will go...just when u think u see a big jump upwards...it plunges...when we see a downwards spiral and short it...it bounce back up strongly...

what a market~

I think there is one dealer short in the mkt to sell right now. My iocbc is down that I was unable to buy/sell. So for those using only iocbc and wanted to sell will be held back. Once their server is up and running, this group will come out and sell.

I totally agreed to it since I'm also strongly against "Shorting" It is not about investing, its more like "Gambling". But...shorting should not be totally ban, it should be well regulated as and when necessary. We still need this tool for reality check, i.e.in times when market is over bullish where people chasing stock prices like there's no tomorrow.

Well look what happened. They bombed big time at the subprime and debt obligations, with the resultant being that all these foreigners--which our country so wants to attract--majorly sold AND shorted Asia and Singapore to earn back what they lost in the US.

I mean really, do you think the STI fell because it "lost value"? Asia was booming. Our market, as it's very open, basically got shorted to death by all these foreigners. To the point that even local BBs are dead or dying. To the point that even longterm fundamental investors cannot afford to hold. What more a small fry? The average investor here loses out not because he's more dumb, or less educated. He loses out because he has less money.

We're simply no competition against the likes of Morgan Stanley, Merrill Lynch, Goldman Sachs, UBS, Citigroup Asia. To put out fires in their own backyards, they start fires in others'.

Remember the names above: because when I say foreign BB, I mean one or more of these. These are the "regulars". In the trading circles, we know them by their number tags.

Because here's a reality check for the FA folks and those who are puzzling why their counters lost value even if it did post stellar results: You think fundamentals can stand against those who need to make money, who want to make money, and who essentially have a free hand and loads of cash to do anything they want? You think BBs really believe in fundamentals, in "holding for the longterm"?

Cosco, for instance. Those of you holding its scrips in your hands, wondering why a company can report 78% increase in net profitability yet tank brutally from 274 to 187 in a single month alone: Merrill Lynch is one of the BBs who played this baby dead. They'll ride it a few more times, to be sure. Flog it til its dead. Squeeze it til its dry.

There is one thing that our authorities can actually do to protect local investors, but sure as hell they won't do it, because, their concern is not to rock the boat. Phrased nicely, they'll tell you, "it's open market principles; that is fair." Well, I say it's patently unfair. Small fries can never win against the money of the elite. The one thing that our authorities can do, which they will never do, is what the US itself, that "leader of the free world", did for a while:

Ban shorting on the STI.

I am using Poems CFD and CMC markets. Saxo is good too. there are many others like IGMARKETS, LIM & TAN, CITYINDEX, MF GLOBAL, etc. Kim Eng will launch their CFD in Oct or has already launched in this month.

It is really good for long/short. it doesnt determie that how you should trade..You will still need your own trading rules but it allow you to make bigger profit even in bearish market than just normal T+3 market shorting.

Try to use more than 1 CFD provider as sometimes you cant short/long certain counters in a particular prvoider. And if you thinking of trading foreign bourses, CMC markets and the foreign CFD providers are better not only of commission but also of no. of counters and others.

Just my personal opinions.

These 2 companies are not the regular bank or financial hse, it gurantee 6 trillion dollar of loans US$6,000,000,000,000.....the common stock entity value will be wipe out by this rescue.

One thing for sure is that US dollar will drop.....as their government has not figure out the cost to rescue them.....

Let see how it goes tomorrow....

i kinda thought the effect on the local market would be positive, actually. esp since it appeared to be controlled accumulation on the blues on fri by foreigners. there was tanking, then significant lidding and collecting at depressed prices. (i may be wrong tho).
