Look very carefully at some stocks. It has formed a higher high and higher low and some have already gone above its previous high. Look at the chart. It tells a lot

That is why, buying selecting stock with as low as PTB ratio is a critical/essential criteria rather than its share business performance nowadays. It means lesser subjected to its share price downward risk!

This is the period where stocks are worth more dead than alive. A lot of quality stocks are selling below their book value. In theory, you can liquidate the companies and get more money back than the money you first placed in to buy those companies. DBS is dirt cheap by fundamentals and valuations. Dividend yield is 9%, if sustainable, is much higher than any other fixed income returns, and we have not factored in long term capital appreciation. Well, pessimists expect DBS to have a huge share dilution, thus driving the price so low and the div yield so high. If DBS can sustain the dividend, people who buy now will collect enough dividends within 10 yr, and the dividend will be more than the share price they pay now. Likewise for SIA. |

I feel slow up bit by bit in the month of Dec 2008. December is SGX market consolidation month I should say. It is good for gradual accumulation of the equity month! Time will prove it.

The Singapore stock market is dirt cheap by historical data. Most of the STI blue chips are trading at P/E 5 to 10, Book value, B/V of 0.5 to 1.0, Dividend yield of 5% to 10%. This is probably as low as SARs 2003 (or slightly lower) and approaching 1997/98 financial crisis levevl. Eg SIA P/E 7, B/V 0.8, Div yield 10%. Eg DBS P/E 6, B/V 0.7, Div yield 9%. Market is extremely pessimistic now (from extremely bullish 20 mth ago in Apr 2007), expecting all the profits of STI blue chips to be wiped out, dividends to be unsustainable, and perhaps some big blue chips to fail. And possibly fund redemptions by western hedge funds as they sell their last $ of Singapore blue chips and retreat totally from Singapore, maybe now these hedge funds own less stocks than small time investors like us with only a few k in stocks. I guess the sellers now are mostly shortists and desperate folks and funds who need to raise cash for short term needs. Eventually sanity will return, and people will look back and wonder why people are selling and shorting STI blue chips trading at 0.8 book value and 10% dividend yield. |

A gradual fall over a long period of time is more agonising than a gap-down followed by a quick rebound... |

STI did not open on a huge gap down. It is a good sign if you ask me. If you notice previously for the past few weeks, whenever DJI closed very badly, STI opened on a huge gap down and went on to close near it's high. This has occured for a few time already. AK agreed , STI is now on down trend, any other areas as well. Dun hope for the best, at ds juncture. Stay sideline n ease your pressure. No harm, earn less only but with good mind to relax. However, some good coys end FY08 may still profitting, n may give good div by end Jan or Feb 09. Homework needed loh. |

just by reading the technicals.. let me start with the STI. don't have a graph to show as i can't replicate it here..but here's how it goes.. STI just starting forming a symmetrical triangle..What do we know abt symmetrical triangles? It will follow the trend that precedes it.. And what was the trend before this? DOWN!.. so my guess is as good as urs...the next trend after the symmetrical triangle is DOWN for STI.. Another good piece of supporting evidence is that DOW was moving upwards on decling vol.. What does this mean? Means that at higher prices..market participants are not interested...thus buying interests will fade..and what happens when interests fades?..the markets come DOWN!.. Dow down, STI will follow suit.. i know i will get flamers here..but i'm here to educate..and also to survive thru this "crisis" by accumulating as much capital so i can dump it into the "cheap" blue chips stocks that will revive itself to its former glory in time to come.. |

Notice that the Semb familiy recover a few cts faster than the change in theHSI. Looks like some pple have access to HSI faster than we see on philip online. Immediately after the semb family recover a few cts, the HSI increases by double the earlier increase.
