stock market is a place for companies to raise funds thru public listing and for public to invest into a company, with the hope of reaping the benefits of a growing company thru dividends, appreciation in company value, etc.

wat does a shortist have a role to play in the above?  sell a share u dun own?   where is the logic here?

wah why not say, sell a property u dun own and buy it back later?

Neither 'longists' or 'shortists' are bad people... they are all good people... 

But the 'shortists' understand the workings of the market more intimately, and obey its idiosycracies.

Whereas the 'pure longists' are more like ostriches who are very biased people who stubbonly, for reasons best known to themselves, refuse to acknowledge that the market can move up and down significantly during its life.

And no amount of sensible talk will convert the pure longists, except when they finally suffer heavy
loss of money.
