Some words of wisdom from Richard Russell for the end of week : "The numerous market closings with the Dow up just a token each day keeps the optimists happy and hoping. We see the Dow open up anywhere from 30 to 50 points each morning. Then for the rest of the day persistent selling trims the early morning gains, and the Dow closes maybe 5 or 10 points higher, and sometime at a loss. What's going on here? Putting this together with the numerous "distribution days," it seems to me that what we're seeing is steady institutional selling. I f this continues I would expect to see the market break wide open one day in the near future. The "internal market" has already run into trouble. The "external market" (Dow, S&P, Nasdaq, NYSE) will follow. " |

P/s - Medical w hospitalisaion - ALWAYS insure the MAXIMUM coverage (if 500,000, go for it) for there are many times where patient has not enough to cover medical expenses and end up paying a lot of cash or cant pay to the hospital. If cant afford maximum, try to go for 2nd max. No point go for only 60,000 or 100,000 etc, if the premium is not much difference, dont save on this type of policy though it has no insurance elements in it, but given the ever-increasing medical expenses, its worth paying. If cant afford all family members under such coverage, BREAD WINNERS of the family should at least have sufficient medical coverage before its too late. :) |

You are RIGHT on insured DEFAULTS. I remember befOre the Millennium 2000 there was a CPF sub-PRiME insurance policy tsunami which WiPED OFF Millions uP to Billion of CPF savings from the CPF insured. Like the US sub-PRiME PROPERTY CREDIT, insurance polices were pushed to people who could nOt afford Long Term Insurance. Within 2 to 3 years, there were MASSIVE DEFAULTS. the iNNOCENT insured LOST ALL their premiums PAID with their CPF SAVINGS. # VERY PAINFUL INDEED # By RIGHT, the CPF should CLAIM for all the premium refunds on behalf of the ignorant insured. Wonder, what was CASE doing at that time ? ? ? ? small fries always gOt swOllOwed Up including their bOnes. at nO fault of theirs. Simply because they were ignorant of the Long Term Commitment for Insurance premiums. LiKE BONDS to Corporate, INSURANCE can be DEADLY to the individual. A DOUBLE-BLATED SWORD |

A big bonus for NTUC Income policyholders SINGAPORE This is a 53-per-cent increase on last year’s payout of $270.8 million. The insurer’s premium income grew 14.5 per cent to hit a record $3 billion last year. Chief executive of NTUC Income Tan Suee Chieh said its customers had turned to them in “their flight to safety during the financial turbulence” last year, as they trusted the home-grown insurer to be financially strong. He attributed the company’s success primarily to its change in culture, which places a “decided emphasis on a more professional approach to managing the business, achieving excellence and being performance oriented”. Mr Tan said that during the economic downturn last year, the dedication of staff who have been with the company for many years helped earned the confidence of its channel partners, including banks and financial advisory firms. In celebration of its 40th anniversary, some 250,000-odd long-standing policyholders — those who have been with the insurer for 10 years or more — will enjoy a one-time “special cash bonus” this May. The cheque amount will range between $25 and $500, depending on the policy duration. This year’s bonus payout is made up of the regular Annual and Special bonus amounting to $283.9 million, an Anniversary Bonus of $123 million, and the Special Cash Bonus worth $8.6 million. Earlier this month, NTUC Income launched a free insurance scheme for low-income families, which will cost the insurer up to $500,000 over the next three years. — NTUC Income yesterday declared a generous bonus payout of $415.5 million for policyholders this year, on the back of a “sterling” performance last year despite the global financial crisis.
