Thanks for the very helpful information. I do have a intention to invest long term and I've only invested in those companies that have good fundamentals, blue chips as they are referred to. But due to the uncertainity and volatility of the market nowdays, many has turned speculators and it seems that long term strategy does not bring much benefits as it does before and could even be otherwise.

Frankly, I don't think this bear will stay very long. I'm guessing maybe 1 to 1.5 months. |

To dump or not to dump? This depends on what are your strategies for the stocks you have on hand. By asking this question. I presume you don't have a strategy. If the stock has good fundamental, i.e. good earning results and bright future, you may want to keep it as a long-term investment. If the stock does not has good fundamental, then you may want to look at its chart and determine if its price has peaked. If so, sell. If not, hold until it does. For trading, you may want to set a cut loss price at 10%.

S**t. Thought I will made it financially good when I accepted my job posting here in France since 2000. Initially believing that Europe was doing not bad until the recent financial crisis revealed the dumps there are in. Euro savings that I have in BNP Parisbas is dwindling in strength and I don't know how much further it will deteriorate. Fortunately I didn't indulge in the stockmarket over here that could make matter worse. Should I dump all my STI stocks or is it prudent to keep it for the long haul?

The 1st sign of the Bear was on 22 Mar 2010. Only 25% confirmation. The 2nd Bear appears on 31 Mar 2010. 50% confirmation. But was quickly taken over by the Bull on the following day and this cancel the Bear signal. The 2nd round. The 1st Bear appears on 13 Apr 2010. 25% confirmation. The 2nd Bear appears on 19 Apr 2010. 50% confirmation. The 3rd Bear appears on 28 Apr 2010. 75% confirmation. We are now in the Bear Market. |

Like I said before... This is just the beginning of the bear market. Actually it started last Wednesday. There are more drops to come. Unless you know what you are doing, don't go into the market now. This is the time where many amateur traders and investors get slaughtered.
