There are leaders and herd here. The leaders will lead the herds into a panic sell down. The leaders knows that the market has risen a high point and have already taken they profits. They only need an excuse to start a sell down, so they can buy back the stocks at the lower price. The rumors on Spain is just the excuse they are looking for to start the sell down. Whether to stay sideline or follow the crowd? Depends on your position. If you are trading, I suggest you take profits or cut loss. If you are investing, I suggest you hold on and average down later. Remember, the leaders just want to buy back the stock at a lower price, ultimately, they still want the price to goes higher.

But don u feel that its the herd mentality that is causing all the sell off n rumors of spain in trouble as well? or its just good to stay sideline or follow the crowd... but don be the last one holding... when the music stops?

This is just the beginning of the bear market. There will be no rebound in the near future because of Europe uncertainty. Greece will know if they are getting their loan or not on 16 May 2010. Before that date, I don't think there is much chance of a rebound. Also, don't forget about the other debt ridden European countries.
