US economy slow down will somehow affect the global economy whether we like it or not...US economy is still the largest (20+ %). The question is how much impact to the others (Asia & Europe). |

I am not so optimistic. I believe it will take some time before the full impact of the sub-prime problem is felt in other non-finance industries. The first casualties are the stock market and the finance sector. |

Was hearing those analysts comments as I am currently in US. Those companies (non finance) with global presence will typically be fine and not so much affected by the recession since their growth is mainly fueled by the global markets particularly the emerging markets. So they are still expecting strong growth. There are many school of thots even among the locals. They think US recession is self-contained not realising that the potential impact on the export markets especially when so many asia countries are exporting to US. For instance, the China GDP is 11.4%. If not for the US issues, it could probably be much more? Another school of thots was that the world wide economy has shifted whereby it is less dependent on US. So even if US were to go to recession, the impact would be lesser. Let's just hope that for more positive news to keep the mkt alive. |
