Proxy to the tech sector's recovery

Hotung is basically an venture capital investment comapny mostly in Tecnology in Taiwan, US and PRC. In the last couple of years they've been in the red and only recently reported a significant improvement result for FY06. The recent share px movement may have been the result of a favorable economic environment in the Global Tech sectors which Hotung has a strong present. Going into 2007, the Management expects growth to continue with stronger revenue from the US and PRC operations. An additional bonus to Hotung (maybe) if KMT wins the Presidential Election. Just my take and would love to hear from you Guys/Gals. Cheers! |

Where did you get the 0.22 target from? Do you mind sharing the link. I am following this counter closely with the company back in the black and with the Taiwan Stock Exchange at record high. |

This is a turn around play, most of their venture companies listed in Taiwan, with Taiwan political uncertainty, its sure not attractive. However, with the recent report as posted by level13 I think it is worth considering, inexpensive considering the recent US-Sin exchange. It should be a good candidate of rotational play. Fundalmentally ok just lacking interest. Vested |

The results are out. Net profit: US$11.9 mil Cash backing per share: US$0.066 Dividend per share: US$0.0073 Yield: 5.4% NAV per share: US$0.223 Current px per share: US$0.135 Effectively you are only paying US$0.069 to own a portfolio of 150 - 160 companies. I leave the value investors out there to make their own conclusion whether to buy or sell. VESTED CHEERS! |

Since last week till now, there has been quite a lot of volume on this stock, I wonder if the company has continued the shares repurchase of the stock. Found no records of such filing with SGX. The financial results for 06 have turn around and it is an interesting stock to watch out for over the next 3 months with the Taiwan bourses going up. |

Looking at a book value of approximately S$0.31 or US$0.20 based on the exchange rate of 1.55. It looks a bargain at the current price of US$0.135. Technical chart seems to suggest it is going to move up. Good to accumulate except on the fears of the US interest rate dropping and the SG dollar strengthening against the US $. (Capital Gain with some currency loss) |

Yup, a good recovery story. Should take a serious look and also take into consideration the strong SGD vs USD. You could be killing 2 birds with 1 stone (capital gain + exchange gain), so to speak. Cheers |

Hotung is featured in today's Zaobao "Take Cue from the Chart" column. If you believe in the author, target price is US$0.17 for this upwave. This morning's activity may be a direct response to that. Hotung also announced this morning at SGX that Third Avenue Management has increased its holding from 10.08 % to 10.12 %. |
