Many companies are using idle cash to buy their own shares. Honestly, it is the best time and most profitable time to do so. Many small cap counters and even large caps are abt 50% off their NTA backing. Companies who did their buying when the market was higher should double up. This is a sensible way to do business. Buy very cheap and then cancel the shares which effectively improve your share NTA which invaribly lift up your share prices in the market. Don't be a goondo! |

worse if the buy backs are just to offset those convertible bonds (where prices are usually converted at discount) or stock options (practically buy back shares to give to mgmt) or simply to hold up the market price (no intrinsic value) |

I think if "share buy back" is accompanied with a cancellation of the bought shares the impact would be real good for investors. If the shares are not cancelled, these bought back shares (normally classified as treasury shares) would still be taken as current (or non-current depending on the auditors/accountants discretion) assets and the NAB is only appreciated when the shares are bought back cheaper than the prior NAB. But if the bought shares are cancelled, then the NTA (NAB) per share would be raised up more higher because the lesser shares float after the excercise is backed by the recalculated assets. The recalculated assets though lesser in proportaion because you have to "less" the purchase amount, would still enhance the new NTA per share. |

Share buy back is quite the Opposite of Right Issue. Should be a good news. |
