This is a study concerning top 10 Singapore brands conducted by the company "Brand Finance Singapore" hosted on Singapore Institute of Management's (SIM) website. Feel free to visit at the URL http://www1.sim.edu.sg/sim/pub/mag/sim_pub_mag_list.cfm?ID=2578 for more details on their report. Branding speaks much about the economic moat of a company. For an average customer who have the spending power, he will likely pay a premium for the products or services from companies of reputable brands. When a company dominates it's market by it's strong branding, it can also offer it's products and services at competitive prices (because of it's large scale of production) to fight off smaller competitors. Having an economic moat will also means the company can raise it's sales prices since it is dominating the market and people just have to pay a higher premium for it's products or services. A good example is Coca Cola which is the market leader in the beverage industry. So, if one wants to drink carbonated syrup drink, he has only a few limited selections, Coca Cola or Pepsi Cola or root beer? Clearly, he may likely end up buying the most commonly available and consumed Coca Cola because of it's highly recognised branding over the others. ![]() |
