hey, he was not an MP anymore since 1999, the case happened in 2003/4/5.... The former Jalan Besar GRC MP,  who resigned from Parliament under a cloud in 1999,  is accused of receiving S$1,500 in 2005 from a then-national player in exchange for more playing opportunities. looking at the year happened in 2003/4/5 ( he NO longer MP already) ...and now surfaced it....hummmm.. another case of token of appreciation(gift) for " help" rendered to   " friend" ...after a long time become a " corruption" ..... P.S.  In 1999, Choo, a former MP for Jalan Besar GRC served a two-week sentence for issuing false invoices to help a family friend cheat a finance company.

Even $15k or $18k MP allowance is Money NOT Enough - PAP will need even higher MP allowances in future....... TODAY  SINGAPORE (8 Dec) - Former Member of Parliament Choo Wee Khiang was charged this morning with three counts of corruption, allegedly committed while he was president of the Singapore Table Tennis Association. The former Jalan Besar GRC MP, who resigned from Parliament under a cloud in 1999, is accused of receiving S$1,500 in 2005 from a then-national player in exchange for more playing opportunities. He is also said to have received US$600 on two occasions between 2003 and 2004 from a then-STTA assistant coach as reward for approving the use of two training facilities in China. Another former colleague of Mr Choo's, Mdm Koh Li Ping, was also charged with one count of conspiring with him to commit criminal breach of trust between 2002 and 2003. Mdm Koh, who was then a manager with STTA, allegedly arranged with the principal of a local secondary school to engage the STTA in a new training arrangement. She then got the approval from Mr Choo to use S$8,400 of the proceeds to pay a colleague who did not provide any training in the arrangement. Their cases were adjourned.  |
