The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) and Immigration Checkpoints and Authority (ICA) arrested the women and seized the drugs at Woodlands Checkpoint. The first arrest was made on Saturday afternoon after ICA officers stopped a Malaysian registered 'pirate' taxi at the car arrival bay. Inside the taxi was a male Malaysian driver and two female Malaysian passengers. CNB officers searched the vehicle and its passengers. They found 924 grammes of heroin kept in two bundles hidden between two sanitary pads in the underwear of one of the women. The 23-year-old woman was wearing two pieces of underwear and two pairs of tights. Another female CNB officer then searched the second female passenger, 28, and recovered 902 grammes of heroin and 254 grammes of Ice kept in four bundles. These were hidden between three sanitary pads in her underwear and two pairs of tights. A total of about 1.6kg of heroin and 254 grammes of Ice, with a street value of S$307,700, was seized. The two female suspects may face the death penalty, if convicted. The 60-year-old part time taxi driver is assisting CNB in its investigations. Earlier, on Friday night, a female Malaysian's attempt to smuggle into Singapore small amounts of Ice and cannabis, as well as 20 ecstasy tablets was also thwarted. The 21-year-old female Malaysian had secured the plastic bag containing the drugs onto her underwear and worn a pair of tights over her underwear. The latest drug busts came after a similar arrest on Thursday, when two bundles of heroin weighing about 960 grammes were found concealed between two sanitary pads in the undergarments of a Malaysian woman at Woodlands Checkpoint.   |
