Agreed. It is registered as an investment company but end up manufacturing aluminium products for the train cabins. It also invested in a couple of railway companies. So, it is both. It is also exploring into producing parts for the aerospace industry.

ya, Midas holding company is an investment holding limited. Then it has other companies under it doing the manufacturing/business indirectly or directly related to rails. All holding company is investment company. Where it sit on top and owns other manufacturing business. It will still be classified as Manufacturing due to its sub nature. Like KSH Holding - same :)

tony, believe it or not, this is an investment company... in indonesia, there is one company that is similar to this.. it's share name is BUMI... they said that it's a company doing coal mining like straitAsia, but if you dig deeper, this is just a investment company.. they are buying coal mining company and invest in them.. they dont actually hold a real mining factory... midas is also the same.. it's a investment company focusing in china for their railway works...read the midas website for their company profile..

It will not catch up in Singapore as it is never fun reading online especially with a greying population. Just see the electronic books that fail to take off in Schools even with the young. Not practical.

Why do you think SPH current focus is in the Internet? Didn't you notice the large number of SPH related websites that have sprouted out over the past 3 years? But I think print media will most likely co-exist with the online media in Singapore. Afterall, there is only one big media player in Singapore. I doubt there will be another that will rival SPH.

Any one sees the internet posing a serious threat to this counter? Last heard, a number of American news publishers were badly affected. If the same happened to SPH, its fat dividends may need to be cut significantly - never mind whether its Board consists of former ministers, members of parliament or civil servants. |

Yes, it is all decided by market forces. Agree that there is no need to overact.

What is the problem? They may have overpaid but they have probably done their calculations that they are still able to make money inspite of the higher prices. Anyway they have only 60% ownership. Moreover the Clementi mall will have good quanlity cliente allowing for higher rentals. Therefore I do not see this affecting their core business and revenue presently. |

When it reaches your 8-8.2 range, you will wait for it to drop further. There is no end to it - this is human kiasu syndrome.
Seems like there is no news on its 3Q results, besides the divident announcement.
Just a gentle reminders for those faint hearted:
Rmb1.76bn metro train contract secured but more could come.
China’s railway network set to become second largest in the world.
Proposed secondary listing in Hong Kong.
Target price for Midas is S$1.14

Singtel is working hard to keep up to its promise. But you look at its MIO TV and Internet Connectivity - they are found wanting.

Not sure if Singtel cannot wire up in time. Just one day after the announcement of securing the EPL, I found singtel workers installing cables at my condo and completed in 2 days.
tonylim ( Date: 03-Nov-2009 19:34) Posted:
Tough challenge for Singtel to wire up the remaining household within 10 months. See no reason not to accept Starhub's offer (free) other than saving its own face. Moreover, if Singtel refuses to accept, it will anger quite a number of subscribers and this is poor PR and lack of social responsibility on Singtel |
