TA-wise (on busd alone): the drop does not come as a surprise as there was quite a bit of opportunistic trading on the counter prior to the TH. i.e., a lot of contra players--20-100 lots. THese would have had to sell out by the T+5 date (count from the first spike in ach's px), no matter what, if they could not afford to pick up the stock. That'd account for the drop in px today: overhang from mon-tues.

o/w, the movement is actually quite normal. You'll notice that most of the buying, esp prior to the halt, was in quite large lots:100 to even 500+. Consistently the pic for this counter is buy ups. There's some support, for whatever reason.

FA-wise: centaur has a point. Am still not very familiar with FA, apart from the ARs, but logically, when a co sells its profitable units, it means it's likely going to dispose of the rest, and venture into new areas. Precedence is Jade, from 8c to 55c at its peak when it sold off all its units and is now instead converted to a proxy gas/oil play.

Risky either way. but then, risk and reward are proportional.

either way, on TA terms, support at 12.5.

it's a buyer/seller willing phenomenon. So the px tmrw is likely to be around 98, if you ask me. Supply is rather limited though, at this stage. I won't be surprised if you find lots of buyers but little sellers, except at high prices. (unless some ppl need to lock in gold so as to shore up stocks.)

The variation can be as big as $2, pls note.

Note in event of some ppl selling down due to margin calls on other counters, you can expect natural rectification of the px, since savvy investors will take the chance to grab it below 95, and sell it the next day when the price 'corrects' itself to about 98 or so.

not sure which broker you're using, but for me, i click settlement in S$, so it's auto converted at whatever that current bank rate is.

Wld advise to hold gold til 2Q of year. The collapse of the dow will tell you when it is time to sell gold. o/w, my earlier call at 1,100 to tech max of 1,200 still holds. (cf my earlier posts in this thread. since nov, if not earlier...can't rem hte exact date i posted)

idesa, calculation a bit off perhaps? I'd have put the start as august, if not jul 07. which puts the 10 mths at may/june 08. which wld be about right then, since a recovery is expected 2H 08.

relax idesa. the ETF will roughly track the px of gold, but actual movement will depend on the ppl buying/selling, which accounts for the difference. considering the index dropped big today, won't be surprised if some small fries had to sell off gold to shore up other counters.

Also:

GLD at 985 spot px is today's px from the US Comex, you need to account for time difference. ie, tmrw on the STI, then you'll likely see ~98.5.

Rem that if you look day to day, this ETF actually went up to 98 before the comex spot px, so a bit of 'correction'--if you can even call it that-- is to be expected.

Pls note that this ETF intraday fluctuation is quite high. my advice is to sell to buyer. unless you can queue high to sell.

eh. as per arbitrager's and my own posts. those thinking of averaging, don't buy in yet. call made then still holds.

the rebound, if any, will likely be swift and furious, but not to the target that most are expecting.

hell. they're really running this baby to the ground. 3000 lots sold at 1.06. why are the small fries still rushing in to buy?!

stay out, people. elfie seldom gives direct warning, but this time. Stay out. If you're looking to square up, not yet.

(-_-").....farmer, perhaps too many TV shows? :P

but seriously, if that were the idea, then, no need to put so much resources on alert, on manhunt wat...let him go free, let him believe police are stupid, would be way more effective than mobilising so many ppl and resources. so scenario can likely be struck out based on probability....

altho, haha, who was it who quipped about photohunt? apparently the telcos are getting in on this now. perhaps we can all expect a pic of mas selamat kastari to appear on our phones soon, courtesy of our own taxpayers' money. (perhaps singtel will increase phone bills next mth, citing services rendered? ;) )

hmm...seriously tho. if you were the guy, where would you go to, and how? mind games. interesting.

agree with singaporegal abt the ratrace here, and that in other places, you are closer to nature. Singaporeans have lost their touch with the land...

idesa does have a point tho; in the rush for wealth, not to just throw it all away and 'whack'. fastest way to die in the market. haha. calculated risk is very different from just whacking, though...you punt only with what you can afford; not your entire fortune.

idesa. don't even need 3 mths. i'm having job ads shoved under my nose already. (-_ -") ....sigh....emigration....sigh....haha. see how lah. i don't wanna rush into any decision. not young anymore. can only afford so much time. gotta be more careful this time around. altho, i guess my problem is not lack of choice; it's too many options, all of which have their pros and cons.

zanetti, no.

even if SPC spikes up, it'd only be for a short while. as those other investors with losing stocks will sell their winners to shore up their losers.

stay out. keep in cash or gold only. unless you have direct ability to buy oil as commodity direct. but even then, it's too high to buy currently. expect retracement.

just read some of the online blogs. fwah. our normal press is really censoring the people's real opinions man. haha.

it's dereliction of duty.

would be interesting to see the Govt's accounting of it in public.

most likely, they'd wipe it under the table, and no one but the small fries would have to take responsibility for it. typical style of top down government. I do not think any minister or whatever high authority would take responsibility at all. they're scholars after all. bred to be the elite, and can never be touched, even for their own mistakes.

yes. if they keep getting bonuses etc, increase GST, fare hikes etc for 'better services', do citizens have an equal right to demand refund for inept government?

why should it only be a one way street?

and raise ministers' salaries to 1.9mil per annum, for what? only to have them breed daughters that go, "get out of my elite uncaring face."

something's wrong somewhere.

it's catch-22 for me, kilroy. if i don't try, i'd never know. for one thing, having a full time job hampers trading, and vice versa. So you never quite know if  you can make more profits than your day job or not. but then, to go a year jobless would make my parents kill me. haha.

if it helps any, my previous two jobs wasn't quite related to what i studied, anyway.

FA meaning? financial advisor?

you answered your own question, idesa. that's why i was saying buy gold all the way from nov last year. ETF is more or less correlated with the gold px. if you have no avenues to buy physical gold (which you need to pay extra charges for in terms of storage, transferring, sales px etcetc), ETF is the next best thing.

Oil and SPC--shplayer and i discussed this way back. It's psychology. because in people's minds, SPC = oil. Hence, oil up => SPC up.

it's that simple.

how did you buy oil, idesa? SPC?

the tanking was, in most probability, a given. No rally can be sustained. The key that it was shortlived was the fact that BOTH gold and oil spiked up last week/this week, even tho the dow rose. that was the cue to cut equities already.

remember that gold/oil are weathervanes for the market; normally, they run counter to the stock market. when both stocks and gold run up, that means short lived rally, esp given the macro pic.

gah. see lah. happily reading your gold/oil post and forgot what i came here for:

does anyone know when the Fed is due to meet for march? wall street is pricing in 100% expectation of a half pt rate cut. The date will be crucial to time tech rebound.
