08-Mar-2008 12:42 Others   /   No more hopes for China QDII fund investing in STI       Go to Message

Well i think ppl especially big fund mgrs woke up from the fact that QDII is not coming in anymore.. Saw this latest headline from reliable source. China govt suspended all QDII to foreign countries. Well, its not surprising cos sovereign funds are low investment fund with low risk tolerance. they will not invest highly into high alpha stocks or regions with very high PE or high valuation per se.

China Investment Corp suspends investments in overseas financial cos - report

BEIJING (XFN-ASIA) - Sovereign wealth fund China Investment Corp will suspend investments in overseas financial companies due to high investment risk, the Beijing Times reported, citing Wang Jianxi, a CIC executive vice-president.

'As sovereign wealth funds have low risk tolerance, investment in overseas financial assets, such as Blackstone and Morgan Stanley, will be suspended,' Wang said, referring to two companies CIC has invested in.

He said the CIC had invested less than half of the money it planned to invest abroad. After all planned investments are made, the ratio of high-risk financial assets will be diluted, accounting for a small portion of overall investment.

The CIC paid 3 bln usd for a 10 pct stake in the Blackstone Group in May ahead of the private equity group's initial public offering at 29.605 usd per share. Those shares, which are still locked up, closed at 15.05 usd yesterday.

He said the CIC does not pay much attention to short-term price fluctuations as the company has made a long-term financial investment into Blackstone and Morgan Stanley.

'We can make a gain not only from the stock price. And we can also achieve investment gains from dividends,' he noted.

Wang said that CIC may extend its investment horizon in Blackstone to 5-7 years from the minimum four years if investment returns from the private equity firm are good.

In addition, he added that CIC is not concerned about the problem of interest payments.

The fund has started to pay interest on bonds issued by the Ministry of Finance to fund its start-up.

Well like i mentioned eariler.. this stock is actively traded by short-term traders.. no interest from long term BBs. seems like traders are getting sick of this counter.. well fret not.. this counter is still well-liked by retails.. I am sure we have quite a handful of ardent supporters here.

good luck for those vested.. more bargain hunting for those who want to hold BIG in the coming days.

Ha! yeah.. its good to be humble.. we are all learning.. I guess our primary aim here at SJ is to learn from the experienced one from their failures and success..

yep, from TA point of view, BIG has the worst chart I ever seen in SGX. It's a chartist's worst nightmare. Hmm.. when I compare BIG to any deep Blue chips, none resemble BIG in any slightest way.

I do admire the conviction BIG investors possess and displayed.. but its a thin line between true conviction or self-denial. No hard feelings. Perhaps this new CEO can really bring BIG from ash to live.. But my question is does the stock really worth this much now? the IPO price for BIG is 70c since 2005. It hardly been profitable. so does it worth this much? One should really look deeper into it.. Yes, BIG jus got CE licence, so what? there are so many bigger firms with CE. like one of the analysts said, its a 1-trick dog.. Unless i see profit coming in, if not i doubt it worth this much.. likely it will go below IPO soon..

BTW, this stock is a high alpha stock.. so its go v in sync with the general mkt movement.

Just my own opinion..

oh stupidbear, u shd start changing to smartbear? Smiley

well u follow my threads on BIG, I have been asking people to dump this counter since 90c+... but somehow some group of people see something in this company you and I can't see.. including those long-term funds as well...

Well perhaps you and I can be wrong.. but I will only be interested to look at it when its P&L is in the black and by then perhaps the price will be 50+/60c?

all i can say is that it has no insti interest at all, so seems like only retail see something in this counter.. I dunno.. I really hope I can solve this mystery too..

please dun bombard me, I hope to listen and debate on constructive responses.. so that its informative and beneficial.

Just a gentle advice: its the biggest and lethal taboo in stock market to blindly love a stock.

FA for the industry outlook is not promising.. and like say earlier... got rumours in china saying that there are alot of order cancellations going on.. might not be from YZJ but i think ppl tryin to play safe. got to see if YZJ is being affected from cancellation. If nothing wrong with the order books,. anything below 95c is a reasonable valuation like wat i mentioned earlier if u wan to really hold long term.... Personally for myslef, i am only interested when its at 90c, 12mths TP expected $1.20 based on current mkt conditions. If worsen, then mayb a 20-30% revsion downwards. Expect to see real action after confirmation from 1Q08 results. From now till then, trading range.

Contra players, expect some rebounds back to 97c. Currently is selling overdone by retails. Massive short selling.. if to observe the buy/sell history.

not vested. caveat emptor applies..

Happy trading..

ya man.. people still thinking its time to bottom fish.. NOT YET!!! its not over yet.. its not shorting selling.. dun expect short covering...

elf.. i think people are just taking it too lightly.. haiz.. sad to see ppl drown with this ship..
Yes elf.. same sentiments.. been calling for sell too if u can see from my previous replies..

I heard rumours going round that some smaller shipbuilders are having cancellations of orders.. and recently have become more rampant.. So with the slowing of US economy resulting a slowdown in global trade. Definitely, shipping and shipbuilding industries will be badly hit.

And considering the current PE of  20X is consider very high and unattractive.. and moving forward, earning and orders should come down.. this baby is definitely overvalued.

I personally will only look at this counter when it come down to its IPO price or better.

Any potential tech rebound will be a good time to cut loss or take profit..

caveat emptor applies to all the above

well of cos i m not saying today it will hit 54c.. i am looking at this price based on its PE 12X now.. its definitely not attractive to any long-term investor or fund manager.. if it come down to 54c.. the PE will be ard 7.6X will be more attractive.. and the outlook for the company is not promising as well.. let alone the current global market is gloomy..

yep.. kep corp and citydev have more to come down too.. as well as UOB. another grossly overvalued stock.. waiting to be shot down..

its jus my personal view. do you own research b4 investing..

oh.. u trade on US mkt as well.. ha.. i wanted to try US mkt though.. but i am tired after monitoring SG mkt for the whole day.. need to give myself a break from PC and mkt.. lolz..

But I do agree US mkt is more dynamic and full of opportunities than SG. Cos' US mkt is too big to be manipulated though its still can be subjected to manipulation by big boys..

avoid this counter if u r not in any long position.. Real selling not exhausted if u can see from the buy and sell history.. sad to say, many retail investors still going in to catch this falling knifes.. it going to cut deep..

those still holding on to this baby.. on any rebound, it may be a good time to cut off or take profit if any.. unless u are super long term investor. Dun think it will go back to it's previous high. And 1Q08 results would be good too due to the rising cost of raw materials and weaker mkt outlook..

caveat emptor applies..

Property and construction sectors will be directly under fire when singapore slows down due to US recession.. and last friday the govt jus increase the development charge to control supply as there is an supply overhang in the pte property mkt.. hence.. developer and construction companies margins will be squeeze again... and rising cost of materials will also marginalise the profit too..

avoid all the counter like weehur, yongnam, lian beng, CES for time being... even there is some play for the youth olympic.. its still a few years from now. Can probably get it cheaper by then. Just my opinion.

Perhaps, elf.. u have something to comment here? Smiley

Revision of development charge rates

The Ministry of National Development, in consultation with the Chief Valuer, has revised the rates of development charges (DC) for the period 1 Mar 2008 to 31 Aug 2008. The Chief Valuer has taken into account the current market values in the half-yearly review of the rates.

DC rates for use groups A, B2, C & D have increased; while the other use groups B1 and E-H remain unchanged (see Appendix 1 for Table of DC rates and Appendix 2 for the list of use group). When compared against Sep 2007 DC table, the rates for Commercial use group A have risen by an average of 1.5%, Residential (non-landed) use group B2 increased by 2.6%, Hotel and Hospital use group C by 3.3%; and Industry/warehouse use group D by 16.8%.

There is no change to the number of geographical sectors and their boundaries. The revised DC rates would also apply to cases which are granted 2nd or subsequent extension to their Provisional Permission.

If there is disagreement over the rate of DC payable for any development proposal under Use Groups A-H, developers and owners can opt for case-by-case valuation by the Chief Valuer as provided for in the Planning Act.

For any enquiries on DC sectors and use groups, please contact Ms Heng Siok Ngo of URA at Tel: 6321 6506, and for those on valuation matters, please contact Ms Loh Chye Ling of IRAS at Tel: 6351 4138.

Issued by the Ministry of National Development
