In order to create a Consumer Economy, the  wealth  distribution must be WIDE and  DEEP.

S$1,000,000 given to just one person will not be  consumed and circulated and multiplied.

This  leads to WEALTH  HOARDING  by  the  few.

The SAME  S$1,000,000  when distributed to 1,000 recipients  will be  fully consumed and circulated and multiplied.

This  leads to  full market grow for the economy.

Singapore cannot attract  1st World tourists ?  ? ? ?

The 1st Classs citizens of 1st World still do not come to Singapore ? ? ? ?

Those who come to Singapore are probably 3rd Class citizens from 1st World ? ? ? ?

They come here because of  their jobs and  not  for  leisure  ? ? ? ?

Over the past 52 years, how many 1st World leaders came to Singapore  for  personal and family holidays and vacations, by CHOICE  ? ? ? ?

Those who came are because of FREE Travel paid by their employer or government ? ? ? ?

You re propagandists? Kindly, give the stats..   My friends are all over these places.   They never want to come Singapore, except to do business, so you think they worse off?   If worse off, they will die die want to get PRs Singapore like those third world citizens, such as Bangladeshis, the Filopinos, the Madras-Indians and the Thais (Thais, not so much nowadays because Thailand life is ok despite political conflicts.).   So that is why I said Japan, S.Korea and Taiwan are still a better place to live.   Singapore is beautiful in looks, clean, garden city appearance, multi-cultural and colorful people from all over the globe, yellow, black, white and some reds, you can see in MRTs.   These are mostly " cari makan" foreigners.

JAPANESE  retirees  do  not  wash public  toilets,  clean  foodcourt tables  etc because they  still have pension  beyond 100 years.

Singapore's  economy  is  not  healthy  by  economic  standard  as it is using the SAME  JAPANESE  MODEL  of  near ZERO bank interest rates with high forex exchange rates.

Now the S$ is so high,  do you benefit from  cheaper foreign goods ?

Have the prices of foreign  goods fall ?

NO!  They prices do not fall at all ?

S'pore cannot afford " revolving door" style of govt: MM Lee

Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew

SYDNEY: Singapore cannot afford to have a " revolving door" style of government where top leaders change every five years.

Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew said the country needs good, competent people who will stay.

And this is why they must be paid market rates.

Mr Lee was speaking to reporters in Sydney at the end of his visit to Australia and New Zealand.

From parliamentary secretaries to ministers, the top level in the civil service is paid a total of S$46 million annually.

That is 0.13 percent of the total government expenditure or 0.022 percent of GDP.

On Monday, the civil service pay review will be announced in Parliament.

The Minister Mentor warned that the Singapore economy would be in jeopardy if it does not pay top dollar for top people.

He said if this S$46 million was cut to maybe S$36 million or S$26 million, the country would save S$20 million but in the process, would jeopardise an economy of S$210 billion.

" So for the average family earning S$1,500-S$3,000, we are talking of astronomical figures but for people like me in government, to deal with the money which we have accumulated by the sweat of our brow over the last 40 years, you have to pay the market rate or the man will up stakes and join Morgan Stanley, Lehman Brothers or Goldman Sachs and you would have an incompetent man and you would have lost money by the billions," said Mr Lee.

While other countries may have leaders who are paid less, Mr Lee said rewarding Singapore leaders well is a system that has worked and is above board.

He said: " If you are going to quarrel about S$46 million – up or down another S$10 to S$20 million – I say you don't have a sense of proportion."

And when it comes to benchmarking, Mr Lee said his own annual income, which is S$2.7 million, is a fraction of what the top managers in the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation (GIC) earns.

He said: " The cure for all this talk is really a good dose of incompetent government... your asset values will disappear, your apartments will be worth a fraction of what it is, your jobs will be in peril, your security will be at risk and our women will become maids in other persons' countries - foreign workers."

When asked to comment on the perception that political leaders should not be in it for the money, and instead, be ready to make that extra sacrifice for the good of the people, the Minister Mentor said it is an admirable sentiment.

But he added that it had taken much persuasion to get leaders like Dr Ng Eng Hen, Dr Vivian Balakrishnan and Dr Balaji Sadasivan, who had lucrative practices, to give it all up to join politics, with no guarantee of success. - CNA/so

Agree with you, to them " money is never a problem"   Unfortunately it seems like " Money No Enough" for them. Such high salary  still can increase by 30% within a year.  You count how much is 30% of their millions?  And got 8 months bonus?

To most entrenched PAP stakeholders, I think money is never a problem. They have plenty of it.   The good ones give ways to better ones is a good plan. The good ones can come from a competing party.   I think we can try the other side, using MM's prediction. This is only opportunity to do so, else you have to wait another 5 years, which by then who knows the world could have ended.   Cheers

The Speaker of Parliament, as provided for under the Constitution, can be appointed from  NON-MP Singaporeans said WP candidate for Aljunied GRC Mr Chen S.M.

By the same token, the PAP may well amend the Constitution to allow for the appointment of Ministers who are not elected MPs (provided that such Appointees must be natural Singaporeans, and if male, must have completed N.S)

Such an arrangement can address SM Goh's concerns, and rectify the predicament created by the PAP. I am sure WP could support and may even second the motion proposed by the PAP! WIN-WIN for Singapore?

pointer      ( Date: 06-May-2011 10:53) Posted:

Some ministers are indeed good men of integrity, eg. George Yeo,  a pity if  he loses  his MP seat, that's equivalent  him losing  his porfolio.

It will be great if we can just vote some ministers off their appointment.

A photograph never grows old. You and I change, people change all through the months and years but a photograph always remains the same. How nice to look at a photograph of mother or father taken many years ago. You see them as you remember them. But as people live on, they change completely. That is why I think a photograph can be kind.
