I had come across a middle-age woman who goes to the MP for financial help, but was refused.

Out of good-will, the RC helpers give her some money to temperately tie her over her immediate difficulty.

The following week, she come back again for help, but was refused 2nd time. This time no money was given to her.

A few hours later, her son come to the RC and make a big scene over why his mom cannot get any financial help.

The thing that makes everyone angry is that he was carrying the latest iPhone during that time.

If they truly have financial difficulty, where they get the money to buy the latest iPhone?

Some people just want to get easy money. I understand why RC gives coupons/vouchers instead of cash.

i dun think they should be charge an interest rate but i doubt e government will agree with me wahahha . funding i think we have enough in surplus to fund this singaporean only project and since i am super pissed with the self million dollars increament by e government i will say tell e ministers to all take a pay cut to fund it. seriously just e levy of e casinos is enough for them to fund this project of mine. dun u agree?

Good! At least you have put on a think cap. A thumbs up for you. I wish the opposites have this kind of qualities. And also at what interest rate? Where the fundings is going to come from? If you have a feasible solution, you have my vote.  )

im thinking how about giving a discount to new flat owners? but five years later when they sell they must pay back e discount. get what im saying? this way e resale wont be affected n these new flats buyers will have a breather n since they claimed to just want a place to stay n start a family, they wont mind paying back when they finally sell.

example:couple A new flat buyers they get their flat at a discounted rate (maybe lets say 50k difference from price. its optional) n five years later they decide to move...so when they sold their flat (at market rate)they have to pay government back e 50k difference regardless if they make money from sale of flat. i think its a good idea. this way resale price wont be affected n new couples can afford to buy flat n have the home they are asking for.

The equation is simple.  You are new buyer, and many of new HDB flats are built for the purpose and not for you to trade, ok?  You want to trade you go to the private market.  Don't upset out status quo which we have for years enjoyed cheaper NEW HDB flats.  You got money, you buy private properties and speculate.  Don't make people homeless.  I presume you are a new citizen, right? Don't bluff, hah.

good for u babe. what i dun understand is why people who kept saying they are poor n have a 3 room flat..refuse to rent out? I mean if i need e money i would. instead of just crying no money no money. I asked my mom to rent out her flat n come stay with me(since she is not working) but she didnt want too...guess she is not in need of money hahaha oh well.

yeah property aside what i super cant stand is e mils they are drawing..my eyes almost pop out. that one is something i can never agree too. but oh well imagine opp become ruling party? die..think market might crash den Isolator will be happy n no mango tree for him.

cathylmg      ( Date: 28-Apr-2011 11:32) Posted:

Its is an asset if you have cash flow coming in from it. And it did for me. From room rental.

Somehow I feel all these stepping down is due to the lack of a better plan. You are absolutely right! They had better come up with a plan. A solution. A a widely acceptable answer among all classes. And my option is still open.

yummygd      ( Date: 28-Apr-2011 11:23) Posted:

In that case, its the whole system you are up against. Not the property issue alone. So don't bring property price into the picture prematurely. Oppositions should have enough of these issues to bring up. I will not vote for an  opposition  who promise to make me poorer by devalueing my assets. Don't ask me to scacrifice myself for the good of all Singaporeans. I am a human. I am selfish. And I am honest with myself.

Just my 2 cents. There is a huge diff between poor people due to their own laziness and poor people due to circumstances. The definition of poor have been long switch into that these people are poor because they do not self help themselves and thus landed in such state and thus the subsidy should not be attractive so that they do not have the option to be lazy.

This mindset is fundamentally wrong and very fatal at times. There are poor people who does not have the option to work. However as a society the question is whether the help given is sufficient. The  definition  of " Sufficient" can vary but  ultimately  if we can provide 30-40% medical subsidy to PR, then hdb housing to PR (citizens get 30K to 40K rebate) then can we do more for the needy and poor or even the middle income people?

Before we continue further how many of us really do know the policies and grants provided to the needy? Lets try this, have anyone ever tried just for a month and live off the amount base on the grants provided to these poor needy folk before commenting? Probably not otherwise many would not make such remarks. Many have mentioned that this is to ensure that we do not become a welfare state but the " distance" between a welfare state to a " humane" state are miles apart and made grey by many who can say big words.

End of the day the fact of life is ... poor people are many on this island and little have been done. This is a fact. There are more opportunities to help the poor before we reach stage that they abuse the system.   Maybe instead of calculation from the perspective of how many people will abuse the system we should start from how many can benefit from the system instead. If we can help 10 and have 1 person abuse this and if this abuse is managable and not out of control wouldnt this help singapore into a better society?

Lastly we may enjoy comfortable job and have decent income, happy family today. This can change in any min and ensuring a humane safety net also  adds to our own benefit as fate can do wonders and sadless in various times.

You are allowed to take up to 30 years to pay up but that doesn't mean that you need 30 years to pay up. Note the difference. Just look at how much people spend on their ravish renovations and you know that actually these money can go to pay up the principle sum. Just to let you know, you can walk into HDB office anytime and pay any amount to reduce the principle sum. Also when you get pay bonuses, pay rise, what did you do with it? Spend on Christmas gift?    Go on long holidays? Buy LV bags? All these contributed to how long you need to pay up.

Ah yes. Thats the motive:-

I dun need anything i just want MAH to step down.....

But beyond that,  how about the consequence of the actions of   another fellow who take over him. Is it going to be gradual growth? Gradual decrease? Stabalising? Plunge the market?

Think carefully.

rasing of wages? ermmm its actually up to e employers right?even if government say i agree to minimun wages senario how many will actually agree? den what about hdb new flats at 250k? ermmm i think no longer this price lor. new flats are at a discount of 10 -20 perfect of e resold flat value(in e MAH own mouth) so if resold keeps going up so will new flats. I understand buliding cost went up etc. if wanna do minimun wages den e people building e hdbs will be paid more den who will get it in e end? Im not saying devaluation of e whole of hdbs because it frankly doesn't make sense n in e end singaporeans will complaint more cause believe me we will not be e one to benefit.

3 to 5 years waiting for a unit that is a very long time. n when u get e unit what happen?U walk in n u start hearing mickey mouse theme song playing. 30 years to pay off one hdb flat..its a long time. I repeat HDB is not an asset unless u rent it out(which mean u r either lucky enough to have nice parents to allow u to squeeze in with them.) but we are paying asset pricing for it. Government is misleading the people. dun forget hdb only 99 years hor. not freehold okie. 750 k 800k resale of a hdb flat is not uncommon. I dun need anything i just want MAH to step down n begone haha he cannot make it go anywhere f anything up.
